Okay, 100 emails isn't all that bad, but they took a while.  I mostly lurk

Tayledras for sure.  They get to sleep on beds if they want to.  Maybe I'm a
bit lazy, or my back is really bad, or both, but the thought of sleeping on
the ground for months or years on end...no way.  NO WAY.

Regarding whoever was talking about the HIGHLY talented Tamora Pierce:  No,
I will not kill you for liking the Circle of Magic quartet better, though I
must say I'm shocked.  If you're looking for a mailing list I can honestly
say I have -no- clue where to find one.  I -do- know that the RP I belong
to is at www.geocities.com/tfoth/index.html and is wonderfully fun so long
as you're looking for 12-17 year old fans of hers and not the younger
group.  

And now: Back to Mercedes Lackey and The Great Clan Debate
I have to say that as a nature freak and an animal lover (due to a close
location to a nature center that I now volunteer at and my parents both
bieng vets) that given a choice I'd choose to be a Herald.  But if it
-must- be a clan, the Shin'a'in lifestyle seems to suit me rather well.  At
fer one of them horses **whistles in amazement**.

One question: What is up with everyone around here and sheep, eh?

Now, I love the bond-birds but I am a BIG horse person, I also prefer the 
Shin'a'in language. I would choose the Plains. The summers are punishing with 
the heat, and the winters frigid (here in MA it's like spring most of the 
time Insane), I think I would be Shin'a'in. oh also the Shin'a'in hide in 
shelters under the snow, Don't ask what book, can't remember.  Kaled'a'in 
would be cool but the Vales aren't all that appealing to me.

The Shin'a'in are said to have the worst taste in color combos and that they 
love every color under the sun, so....
Those are my views on that.

What is SCA? If you want to wear what you like, do it. I wear my cloak to 
school the first year is annoying but people get used to it. BUT, I repeat 
BUT, wear the bag OVER the cloak. Hunchback bad!!!!!!

I definitely go with Tayledras.  Although Cennydd may be right, I don't
like to deal with many people I don't know, so a small Vale is just the
place for me.  I like to help make things better, but not necessarily
come in contact with the people benefiting (I'm funny like that).  Plus,
I love trees and forests, and climb trees whenever I come in contact
with a climbable tree (why can't GA have climbable trees?  it's
impossible to climb a pine tree!).  I think it's kinda just whether an
individual personality does better with more people around and/or does
better under law and order, etc.  Although, what Cennydd said can also
be used to describe the Shin'a'in.  They rarely leave the Plains to go
any further than to Kata'shin'a'in (izzat right? I'm too lazy to look it
up).  They don't let any one inside the Plains, and they look on
non-Shin'a'in/Tayledras as inferior...maybe it's 'cause they're
related...;)

As to Misty's hero's being infallible, although some of it is from
training *nod at Amy*, I think some of it is also that she shows the
characters, while not entirely, somewhat by how the world in general
sees them.  People think of people who have more abilities or greater
power than they do as infallible, and are very shoked when they mess
something up.  One of the hardest things they have to do is live up to
their own reputation.  I'm sure everyone knows the type of person who
got all A's in school, does everything perfect, etc. naturally.  So when
they mess something up, you're surprised, 'cause you think they're this
genius (sp?) who can't do anything wrong.  So they try really hard *not*
to do anything wrong.  (Pet peeve, can u tell?)

explain everything you might want to know, except the sporks.  I think
those have been added since the page was updated (that happened in late
summer or early fall...right before I had to leave for a while).  The
deal with the sporks is basically, someone (I don't remember who)
created a Spork Empire, and many people (including me) swore alleigence
(I know that's not spelled right).

I've noticed people picking on Van a little, so I'll throw something
else into the fire.  What do you think about Firesong?

I would love to do that! The most I've ever done is a week at a time, and it was great. This could be because I live there. Anyway, I would definitely be Shin'a'in. I just like the whole idea.

Me, too? I mean, the books were good, but I didn't really _like_ Van that much. I felt sorry for him, his character just didn't appeal to me.

well first time poster here but i just had to make a few comments on this.

Vanyel is a very difficult character to associate with unless you've been in similar situations
i myself having grown up in a very catholic family who were extremely anti-gay found
an outlet in reading these books. reading some of the problems vanyel went through w/
his family sorta struck home for me. he was a very well established character and i know i'm
not the only kid who's found these books helpful in convincing myself there wasnt something
wrong with me. Vanyel is a character you either love or hate, but theres rarely a grey area in 
between.out of the 12 people i've loaned my copies to, its about a 50/50 split. 

just thought maybe seeing it from another perspective would help you appreciate the book more.

Except for Florian and we don't know what happened to his physical eyes
after the storm passed since he didn't survive the ordeal. But my
observations are only from experience and not referenced from Misty's
books, so like Companions I am not infallable.......

Greetings and salutations to all,

     now, i'm a newbie, so bear with me here.  I thought i'd throw my
hat into the ring on a couple quesitons posed in yestardays email.  The
SCA is a group known as the Society for Creative Anachronism.  you can
probably find a local chapter in your area or within an hours drive.
They are rather strict about costumes and names, but you can be anything
within reason.  I think their time period for costuming extends to the
1600's, but no later.  And you have to pick a sca name and stick with
it.  The sca is also known as the Society for Consenting Adults, y'all
can guess the meaning for that.
     Personally i'd like to see a new series of books dealing with the
twins of either Seleney and Daran, or of the gryphons, she could combine
the two and make one heck of a series.  just my opinion, anyway.

Yes, it does.  The reason Firesong's eyes are silver, is because he is a
throwback to Vanyel.  Vanyel had silver eyes, and Firesong inherited the
genetics for him to have them.  Viola!

And to compliment what she's saying, Vanyel's eyes never went blue, even
though his hair was almost white... working with node energies and such
