In the earlier books in the series, it is indicated if not said outright, that the age of graduation from the brainship program is roughly equivalent to the graduating age for regular humans. The graduates are either in late adolesence or early adulthood. There are several references in the book to Tia's being an adult, but I can't give t.evd. at the moment. Maybe she feels younger because her "voice" doesn't really change from earlier in the book when she is 7 years old. The story jumps her forward 10 or more years, but there isn't a parallel advancement in her maturity. Sorry if this is a bit wordy. She rose to power by force, and there was a lot of internal strife going on when Keroywn was making her way through Karse. Also, Kero feels the presence of the Demons that are summoned by the priests. When Solaris came to power, it was sudden...by a mericle. She also banned all demon summonings as soon as she was in power. I don't believe that it is ever mentioned what happened to the female before Solaris, but I would like to know. I would guess that her opponents finally caught her and killed her in the name of Vakandis. My guess would be that this is when the False Son that Solaris replaced comes to power. There's quite a number of years between Kero's trek through Karse, and the time Solaris gains power in the Winds books. Someone mentioned the novel Tiger Burning Bright. I've never heard of this one. What's it about? The name reminds me of that poem by William Blake, The Tyger. "Tyger, tyger buring bright in the forests of the night..." I was wondering if it was possibly inspired by this poem. They are going to be more of the fairy tale. My opinion on the fairy tale books Misty does is pretty mixed. I loved the Fire Rose except for the ending which was way to convenient and too fast. Firebird was decent I liked the main character but I felt the story itself could have been a little stronger. Black Swan is the only one that I can say I didn't like at all. S P O I L E R * S P A C E In the others Misty put more of her own twist into the fairy tale with Black Swan it seems she didn't put quite as much effort into it. The main characters were also not Misty's best. Odile, I just couldn't get over the urge to smack her, for such a smart person she was being a huge idiot. And the "hero" Sigfreid I think, I wanted to throttle him most of the time. He is, at least in my opinion, the worst character Misty has written he had almost no redeeming qualities and I for one couldn't see why Odette fell in love with him. Odette's character seemed fairly interesting but Misty never did anything with her. Its the first book of hers that I wish I had waited to buy in paperback if at all. Again someone also asked if Brightly Burning was going to be a trilogy, from what little Misty has said about it I think its going to be a stand alone, kind of like By The Sword. Either way I can't wait for it to come out, the story of Levan Firestorm has always piqued my imagination. I also can't wait for the story about Skiff's early life since he's one of my favorite characters. From the sounds of things after the fourth Owl book, which I happened to like they weren't so all or nothing and Misty's humor really showed especially in the last one, Misty is going to be doing single stand alone books to fill in a bit. Its too bad she won't do Sunsinger and Shadowdancer or the Founding of Valdemar but the ones she does have planned sound great.
