I'm very curious to see what happens with the PERN episodic tv show - the dragons and riders mind talk, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it. It's not from Hollywood (hurray!) - I think I got the website from someone here ... www.pern.com maybe? about misty - I was looking at the firebird arts site a while ago (maybe two months or so?) and was viewing the items Misty made for auction. So as usual my mind started wandering (wondering?) and I started thinking about forms of creative expression as well as things that challenge us mentally. An errant train of thought entered my mind: I know Misty has said that writing is her job - is it becoming something where she can't express her creativity? and is that one of the reasons she's expanded her other outlets of creative expression? Now, the basis of this thought is the assumption that her other forms of creative expression have expanded - she's doing jewelry, creating counted cross stitch, etc; if she in fact has always done these types of things to the same degree she is now, the errant thoughts I had should be squashed now. It could be that her creativity overflows and she has always needed many outlets to express it :-) After that long ramble I'm not sure where I'm going with this ... I guess I was wondering about other people's thoughts on forms of creative expression and whether creativity can be diminished when what you're doing is a job ... even if you love your job? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2000 10:08:17 -0600 (CST) From: Brightsong_-+AT+-webtv.net (Jenny H.) They made a movie on the Chronicles of Narnia?? i think my dad said something about that but it went in one ear and — well you know. personally, i hope i never have to watch it. i truly think that, even in animation, it would be impossible to accurately portray Narnia. For instance, no animator could truly portray the image of the world between worlds or of the island of the duffles before they are visible. And of course there are SO many things that just can't be portrayed in a movie that are in books. And how can you show how Lucy's Cordial worked?? Or Susan's Horn?? And some1 (sorry evil delete button made me forget who) said that the movie barely touches on the horse and his boy. i couldn't bare Shasta not being in the movie!! I think that hollywood should just leave fantasy books alone. Look at star wars for instance. i know the movies came before the books, and i wouldn't give up either for the world, but what image do you get whenever you think of Luke Skywalker?? You see Mark Hammil. Han Solo? Harrison Ford. if you HAPPEN to read the books before you see any of the movies, you have these images of the characters that are destroyed be watching the movie. so if any hollywood producers, director or actors read this list, i have a message for you: Leave Velgarth Alone!!!!!!! ooh, this post is like a mile long and i don't have an obmisty.... but _I_ wasn't the one that mentioned Narnia!!!! **grins and ducks flying sheep and flames** sowwy pplz! i'll go back into hiding now! The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe Prince Caspian & The Dawn Treader The Silver Chair Each is about 3 hrs long, done by the BBC. They are quite true to the books. There are a few bad effects, especially in TLtW&tW, but they are very watchable. Go rent them and see. Wish they'd done all the books, now the kids who played everybody are grown so... btw, If you've ever watched Doctor Who, the actor who was the 4th Doctor (the one with the scarf, all teeth and curls,) Tom Baker does an excellent Puddleglum. Having seen interviews with Mr. Baker though I do have to wonder how much acting was really involved... As for Misty's books I fear that even the most innocuous (AoTQ?) would wind up cut beyond recognition. My guess is Follywood would distort it one of two ways either making it an action/adventure flick, which would probably mean no characterization & lots of sex and violence or, even worse, a "film for the whole family." Now don't get me wrong, I like films for the whole family, even if my daughter *did* make me sit through Sound of Music every other month for a couple of years but just off the top of my head we'd lose: (using AoTQ for an example) All sexuality, homo or hetero. Talia's torture & suicide attempt. Most of the torment in Talia & Dirk's non-affair. and "gain": A touching reunion scene with Talia's family. A drop-dead gorgeous actor to play Dirk Adorable kids. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to that. I have after much searching found a copy of QO for a reasonalbe price of ($40) a readable non-collectable copy. which is what I want. and it's on it's way from e-bay. I can't wait! about the movies... A lot of the problem I see is people are afraid of how they would portray certain gifts... There have been movies where they have worked around such things... perhaps a bit cheesy but not all that bad. you must consider if someone is going to make an animie they are going to direct it towards children... so it would be a bit simpler set... and a real life one wouldn't seem quite right. but it COULD I think be pulled off with the right set of animators sponsors and reps to be quite a show I believe. every argument against I can see a way around... maybe not the best way but A way. wow... more people are against it then for... I"m not compalining though, I'd take a book over a movie any day! strange question stemming from the good old day's of fluff on the list.. whatever happened to the friendship ring? has it been lost in time? >From the Desk of, Captain Freedom Justice Walker of the FireSisters __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
