Message-ID: <19264-3892FD7D-2169-+AT+-storefull-257.iap.bryant.webtv.net> Greetings and salutations all, first, i just wanted to say that i FINALLY finished my collection of velgarth books, and am now reading the LHM series. *whoohoo!* Van may not be my favorite character, he's a little to..long suffering and martyred, but he's still a strong character and interesting. Second: there's going to be a pern tv series? when? what station? how soon? even if its horrible, i've gotta see what they do, at least once *lol* Third: someone, i forgot who, was talking about casting for an AotQ movie, and mentioned that the actor who portrayed dirk would be handsome.. well, i'm not sure they would be casting that correctly then. His character isnt exactly Adonis, but has the voice created by the gods on a good day. so to cast an extreemely actractive actor would be wrong, right? (imho.. sorry if i offend anyone) Um, thats about it, sorry for the long post. Message-ID: <20000129235955.19422.qmail-+AT+-web3407.mail.yahoo.com> sheena wrote an essay on *why* ml movies would be a bad idea (no, i'm not going to coy it -- it's huge! :)) anyway, i agree. someone mentioned that hollywood doesn't think that any fantasy besides star wars sells -- star wars was a movie first, then books, et al. how many people who read dune thought that the movie captured all of the details & intricacies of the book? and what about the movie of vampire lestat? if i hadn't seen it in a discount theatre, i would have been livid. as it was, i sat there & laughed. the casting was fairly wretched. tanslating any book to a movie (fantasy or not) means that certain elements are lost, usually to the detriment of the movie. ob misty: yes, owlknight is still only in hc. by the time that brightly burning is out, the pbk should be out (it takes about a year for pbks to show up on the shelves). __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? She spits out some that has found it's way into her mouth, and sighs...* "I know I left the fardling things somewhere in my pockets!..." *A disgusted hmmph is heard from her left, and Li'nia ignores it. The bleeping cat had no idea where her keys went, either...* Well, lucky you, I'm back from playing soldier again! This time I was freezing my tushka off! Ah, well, such is the life in the Cavalry... About the whole books-into-movie thing... so far, Hollywood does not have a good track record. I totally agree with our fellow List-sibs who've mentioned "Interview with a Vampire" and "The Hobbit". The Star Wars bit... well, George Lucas wrote those as stories before the movies; remember, there's 9 chapters all total? We've only seen Chapters I, IV, V, and VI. But you're right; when I think of Luke Skywalker or Han Solo, I picture Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. I don't think Misty has ever written her books with the thought of them translating onto the big screen. They're much too detailed and in depth. Although, so was "Dune"... and I'm sorry, but I still love that movie! I would really hate to have them do that, and forever tarnish the way I look at those books. Face it, when we see a movie, we always seem to see those actor's faces when we're reading the books again. And if that movie sucked, then it will help ruin the whole thing. So I say, leave well enough alone! ===== ---<---<---<----+AT+- Li'nia Stormdancer -+AT+---->--->--->--- Peon to the Powers That Be, (Hopeful)Goddess of All Things Possessed, & Caretaker of the Arena of Discussion and Dissention __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I that he wasnt going to make eps. 7 8 + 9 He said that so many books have been written that happen right after Return of the Jedi that he couldn't make the movie without contradicting a book. AND if you go to the official Star Wars site (sorry forgot the addie) you will notice that the empty spaces for the last 3 chapters are gone. the only empty spaces now are for eps 2+3. Oh, I just checked out "Tiger Burning Bright" from my library and didn't get past like the first few chapters. can some1 tell me does it get better?? Cuz if it dont i think that it is a lot worse then i'm used to seeing either piers anthony OR misty.... okay, now i have a useless obmisty question: if you could be an charecter from any of her books (not just Velgarth) who would you be?? I think i would be ooh!! (what was her name……) the house keeper for the herald trainee's…… oh well! Zhai'helleva!
