I think Misty and MZB have the right idea: guard your copyrights and keep control over your creations. > Oh, I just checked out "Tiger Burning Bright" from my library and > didn't get past like the first few chapters. can some1 tell me does it > get better?? Cuz if it dont i think that it is a lot worse then i'm > used to seeing either piers anthony OR misty.... Are you sure you are talking about TBB? That was a Misty, Andre Norton, and MZB collaboration, and the non-Misty characters were actually pretty good. Misty's character, Princess Whoozywhatsit, was rather annoyingly one-dimensional and Elspeth-like, though. The Piers and Misty collaboration was "If I Pay Thee Not In Gold," and was a bit out in left field for both of them. > useless obmisty question: if you could be an charecter from any of her > books (not just Velgarth) who would you be?? I think i would be ooh!! > (what was her name……) the house keeper for the herald > trainee's…… oh well! Housekeeper Gaytha, I think is the name. I don't think I would be anyone in the stories. I'd either ruin a plotline (can you imagine *me* as Stefen?: "Van, I've had it with your whining and latent homo-phobia! I'm leaving you and I'm taking the rose-quartz with me!") or I'd have to be a totally peripheral character (and even then I probably wouldn't be willing to *remain* a minor character). Which actually brings up a point that I'm sure is true for many people. Most of the time, when I "project" myself into a book, in my imagination, it's never to just be part of the plot. It's usually because I think that the story needs some serious changing and I like to imagine what *I* would do in a given character's situation. Of course, this only works for fleeting moments, since it inevitably results in a scenario that is completely different from the novel. So let's turn the situation to the other side. If you could take the place of any character in a Misty book, and change one thing that they said or did, who would you "help" and how? (NB: this is not an invitation to post or write fanfic. Why not just declare the books non-canonical and make the movies? No body except the obsessives would care. If Lucas really said that, it's a cheap cop-out. How many times has Trek, both on teevee and at the movies, contradicted the books and comics? (not to metnion the previous seasons! 8-){# ) > one-dimensional and Elspeth-like, though. Some >books are just like that. Others, I have to get through a few chapters before >determining whether I like them enough to finish them. Well, since I liked Tiger Burning Bright, I feel I have to stand up for it. It is a mixed author book, so there are going to be some very distinctly MZB parts, Andre Norton parts, and Misty parts. I've read lots of books that didn't start out the best, but things did get interesting after a bit. I've also read books that had great beginnings, but were really bad once things were established. It's really hard to rate a book one hasn't even attempted to read. Especially since if one read it, they might change their mind. Or if you actually start the book with the intention of reading it and cannot finish it. I never finished Silver Gryphon. It took me a month to get through the first 3 chapters. It usually takes me a couple days to finish a whole book (less if life does not interfere). I also wasn't a fan of Elvenbane/blood. And I have tried to read Andre Norton. Andre Norton's writing just doesn't appeal to me, I've discovered, so even a collaboration with an author I like is not going to rate high with me. But I did like Tiger Burning Bright enough to tell my friend who loaned it to me and she then gave me BTS, which hooked me. OK, that was a lot of babbling. Most of the Star Wars adventure books have ILM's symbol on them, which means Lucas approved them as accurate and true in his fantasy world. He doesnt bother with most of the fanzines I think, if any, but the comics, and the novels, _are_ the continuation of the story. I've never read any Andre Norton so I don't know if it was her influence that put me off but it's likely. The book was too uninteresting to be that long and I thought the plot was fairly forgettable. But the other collaboration I've read, Bedlam's Bard, I thought was really great. My least favourite Velgarth is probably the first Arrows book, although I still like it a lot I found it a bit irritating [plus I hate the cover!], and Storm Breaking was good but a bit of a slog, I didn't really need to know that much about the Empire, she could have broken it up a little bit! On another topic can anyone tell me when Owlknight might be appearing in the UK? I don't think it's out yet although I suppose I could be wrong! But that book will never be any more then what you see IMNSHO. Niki, Thank you for bringing up the ring again. It was never passed to me before, and I'd hate to see it fall into the void of people who don't think about tying off their fluff/rp situations before leaving. It would be great if we could reserect it and as I recall I think you are right about Van being the last to have it. I didn't know Van left though, could someone tellm e why? Cennydd- I would change the part when In Queen's Own Taili get's back to the capital with kris after her training year, and Dirk and Talia become on the out's simply because she didn't know enough to actually go up to him and tell him that she liked him. that part got old quick and on my nerves... but yeah I'd love to see that part change. even if she still had to leave again with kris to Ancar's palace and have all that happen it would make the bond developed enough by then to I think help that situation a little.. what do you think? >From the Desk Of, Captain Freedom Justice Walker of the FireSister __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? But anime, or good american(Invasion: America on the W.B. was pretty good and the mind-to-mind bits were well done as well.) But the anime would have to be scripted in ENGLISH and animated so. I would take the place of Talia, and overrule Kris on the way to Ancar's palace, like she admitted she should have done. For me, the death of Kris is heartwrenching. Even though it would completely alter the entire story, as well as the Winds Trilogy (since Talia would never have seen Hulda, or known about her use of magic), well, as Sherrill said at the beginning of AotQ, Herald always get by (or words to that effect). they would have survived and conquered Ancar somehow.
