Whats really bugging me is >that theres no mention of nodes that I could find in the >oaths books, am I wrong, is this a Mistyake? No, they don't mention nodes at all, because this was theoretically mainly unique to the Taleydras. It was implied that the mages of Valdemar didn't use nodes much until Savil brought back the knowledge from the Vales. You had to be a REALLY powerful adept to be able to use the nodes. Purely in speculation, I might hazard to say that the White Winds School, being the school of the Five Elements, doesn't draw on nodes, because they have a relationship with elementals that accomplish their work for them. So the amount of power someone needs to accomplish a task is based on the level of your relationship with the elementals; apprentice, journeyman, master, or adept. These are of course White Wind titles, and not necessarily comparable to any of the other schools. This is of course purely speculation, but it seems to make sense based on some of the comments in the book. I think the primary reason nodes aren't mentioned in the Vows and Honor series is that the idea hadn't been developed yet. They were written before the Last Herald Mage series, so it's not surprising that there are going to be a few discrepancies. >Swordsworn, were described as being really rare in the >oaths books, lihaireden (thats definately hopelessly the >wrong spelling) hadn't had a swordssworn for years when >Tarma took her oaths. Then Urtho's tower in SBreaking >theres loads of them and most of them don't seem to be >veiled ones (leshya). Well, remember how there are more Heralds born and Chosen when they're going to be needed (e.g. like when there were more trainees chosen before the war with Ancar). I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true with the Kal'enedral. Besides it is over a hundred years later, just think of the population increase of the world in the past hundred years; it IS kind of exponential. >I've really fallen for Karal, I think his better than >Vanyel. And just a question, has anyone heard ANYTHING about The Elvenborn? I know she's working on it, but... Any other information would be much appreciated. When Sejanes is talking to Karal he tells him that the Masters use the mage pools set up by their mage schools which is what I thought Kethry accessed when she became and adept. Then he goes on to say that what makes an adept different is that they use the nodes, though they might use the pools for very delicate work. Tremane and Solaris are obviously well acquainted with them when they set up the self replicating shields on them against the Storms. > Songjewel said >P.S. >How come Firesong's not on the list? *pouts* Er, I forgot. I've never been that impressed by him as a character. I know he's got hidden depths, but people who can and do spend all their time pulling people always make me want to turn round and ask 'em whats wrong with them that they can't make long lasting relationships. Too arrogant? Not self confident enough to take the risk of someone getting to know them properly? This is where the pro-Firesong lot say but his settled down with that Kresta'chern now. Yes but I hope I never need that sort of drastic shake-up Firesong got. Whats up with Vanyel? I sent the message last night, but didn't get a digest through this morning so I checked on the archives at herald.co.uk and found todays digest so I've copied and pasted from that. I don't know what Van's address was, sorry. But, we Councilors do listen. That's what we mostly do is listen...*grin* The ring really contributed to the overall feeling of comraderie on the list, I agree. And so, with out further ado: (Please take note everyone: Braid of subjects, Extraneous material snipped, proper attributation at top, fluff at bottom so it can be deleted, not too much fluff so that it mucks with Vanyel or paying customers, OBMisty before fluff) OBMisty: As for the Nodes vs no-Nodes. I think Kethry mentions, as has been stated, that Masters must still draw from themselves, they're just better at it, but once you reach Adept you can draw on the Nodes, she just doesn't call them nodes. But she says that you don't get as tired, and you can get bigger, better results, which equates to nodes (or at least ley lines, which may be more likely). Since ley lines would be more common than an actual node (Which is where lines connnect and pool). And Speaking of magic helpers: How many of ML's series' use helping tools, ie Tarot cards, crystal balls, etc.? She uses alot of the traditional components in Di Tregarde books and in the Bedlam Bardz series, but Tannim doesn't use anything like that. Neither do any of the elves seem to. Is it a difference in understanding various levels of magic, much like the Master vs Adept? Although, Di can access instaneous effects when she needs to? Why would she do it one way and then another sometimes? What type of magic are the elves using? The dragons and kitsune seem to use a lot of magic as well, without becoming exhausted. Thoughts? ********Fluff********** A Gate opens into the Hall of Mist (the good Elven kind, not the nasty, weather-wrenching Velgarth kind) and in a swirl of sapphire and silver silk, out steps the Goddess of Elves and Unicorns, hair blowing in golden-red flurries around her supple form. She throws wide her hands and white-violet showers of sparks stream through the Hall, into every nook and cranny, outside to the pools, and up into the libraries and galleries, into the deepest pool of lurker shadow. Wherever the sparks land, the dust and cobwebs that cover everyone and everything disappear. Fae folk, stream from the Gate, Brownies on sheep rushing through the Halls, scooping up any bits of fallen, moldy food and leftover sheep up from tables and floors, then running pell-mell back through the Gate. Finally, with a last flare of blue-green light, the spell of silence is broken. "There, much cleaner, sorry Lorraine, I know you've been busy, so I thought I'd help out." Slender hands on hips, she surveys the room. "Now, where is she.. Ah, Freedom! Come forward!" As Freedom Walker comes forward, the Goddess of Elves and Unicorns raises a hand and another shower of light coalesces on her hand, this one Silver, Gold, and Platinum. and when the stream of light fades, there sits on her palm, a ring, woven of three strands, one each of Gold, Silver and Platinum. She presents it to Freedom. "While this isn't the original ring of Friendship, it contains the same powers, your persistence has imbued it so. So, I charge you with being the first to offer it in Friendship to another, it need not be someone new, for new or old, young or elder, we are all friends here. Rejoice!" So saying, she turns and throwing her hands up, pointed ears showing for a moment and her hair swirls around her, "Let there be song and laughter, discussion and most of all....Friendship!" *********End Fluff********* Wind to thy Wings, Dax the Eternal, Goddess of Elves and Unicorns, Councilor of Mist Mistic Watcher of Continuity, Evangelist of Low Humor, Knight of Fluff NewbieFest: http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html HomePage: http://welcome.to/GrayHaven Art and Writings: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/zone47/artists/tiffanie2/tiffanie2.html http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/lothlorien/artists/tiffanie/tiffanie.html http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/library/writers/tiff/tiff.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2000 11:34:38 -0800 (PST) From: Aryn Silvertree To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: A slightly fluffy query Message-ID: <20000218193438.24554.qmail-+AT+-web3706.mail.yahoo.com> --0-1681692777-950902478=:23857 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Heyla, Listsibs,Okay, anyone want to join the Southern Vale, a chapter of Queen's Own based in the Southeastern US?
