This is why I don't go postal every time I read of his death--I >am not convinced 'Lendel would ever be "okay" after the twin thing in and >of itself... I mean, the Gate thing? Are you kidding me? Psycho.... I agree. I've never felt really angry with Lendel/Staven/the twin bond thing as a couple of other listsibs mentioned [although I'll admit this trilogy, and most of Misty's stuff, incites some strong feelings : )]. I mean the trilogy wouldn't have been as good if Lendel & Vanyel lived happily ever after ~ it's a tragic story but that must be why so many peple like it. I've reread those books countless times even tho I know it's probably going to make me cry! I love reading it even though I know exactly what's going to happen. When I first read MPrice you could see what was happening and I was thinking ~ why can't Vanyel see that he's doing to Stef exactly what 'Lendel did to him ~ and I wanted to throw the book across the room (!), but the resonance in the series, the echoes from the first book, obviously with the 'Lendel/Stefan reincarnation thing, makes the whole thing wonderful. I also liked what Mark said, about what Vanyel sacrifices for Valdemar; there's also what Stefan sacrifices to be with Vanyel. Hanging on another, what, 50 years. That's so sweet : ) And of course Vanyel and 'Lendel/Stef/whoever do get a happy ever after: about 500 years in the Forest of Sorrows & then onto in the Havens. When I first read MPrice I was annoyed by the epilogue - what I saw as a cop-out happy ending but I suppose it was a nice way to end Vanyel's story. *~alysen, after speaking up twice in 24 hours, feels quite surprised at herself. Message-ID: <200003020041.TAA09367-+AT+-core.greenapple.com> Heyla, all! Wow, the list sure picked up this weekend! I got something like 40 posts since Thursday night. I'm impressed, everyone! *grins* I've got a bunch of topics I'd like to cover, but I'll try not to let it get TOO lengthy! Okay, for the favourites catagory: Favorite Male Characater: Stefen. He went for what he wanted and got it, and then he was strong enough to carry on without his lifebonded. He had a lot of qualities I admired. Favorite Female character: Yfandes. Not a human, but still a major character! I'd like to read a story about her as a Herald before she became Van's Companion. Favorite "Creature": Companions Best Fighter w/o Magic: Captain Idra of the Sunhawks. I really admired her as a captain and I'd assume she was as good of a fighter or she wouldn't have gotten that far in the rankings. Best User of Magic: Kethry Most Intelligent: Most Beautiful: Vanyel Least Favourite Series: The Gryphon trilogy.. I just couldn't get into it. On the sexuality topic: I agree that it's wonderful of Misty to include gay characters like she did, as normal people. She opened my eyes in that respect, just like half a dozen other people said. I also agree with whoever said that the responses are getting repetitive (please forgive here, also, as I read what seemed like an endlist string of posts today and can't keep straight who said what) and that we should change the subject. On that note.. Companions could be wolves, maybe. Or something more like the kyree, perhaps. But then they'd be much more noticable and the Heralds would have to leave them behind in a lot of situations where they need to interact with the "common" folk on a close level. A wolf would be able to defend his or her Herald, but a horse-shape can fight, too. Have you ever looked at those teeth? I've been bitten before, completely on accident while feeding a horse, and had to go to the hospital to have it fixed up and I've lost more than one toenail to being trodden on by a paniced animal. Transportation is a plus, too. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2000 21:36:53 -0500 (EST) From: Erin Lewy To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re:fav characters... Ouch! I was bitten by a horse once, too, and it hurt like h*ll, let me tell you, for a while... Luckily, no hospital for me because it was through my jacket! (This was a colt, who had not yet been placed with older horses for manners-learning.) OW, though. ObMisty: It should be noted that the Doubleday book club does not sell Misty books. Rawr. Yeah, I know they're a publisher, but they don't just sell THEIR books. I REALLY wanted to use 3 of my "new member books" on AotQ if I could. ;P Don't ask why I am joining this thing...)
