I'm not sure, but I would imagine that what you would be buying, in fact, would be a license to produce an RPG, rather than buying the rights to the Velgarth world. If you were truly buying the rights, I'd expect the price tag to be in the high six-figures or even in the seven-figures. Because, once you bought the rights, Misty would not be able to write any more Velgarth books (since you would own the copyright). On the other hand, a licence to produce a derivative work would probably be very doable. I would expect that you would then be looking at the mid-five-figures or higher, for a buying price. Misty's lawyers would have to be crazy to ask for much less than this. At least, that's what it looks like to me. Still, I'm not an intellectual property broker or deal-maker, so I don't really know. If you are working under licence, you would probably have the right to use the world, the generic types of characters, etc, but you might not be able to use the actual main characters. Of course, on the other hand, you might. One thing you would have to check would be who would own the copyright on your finished game. Since you wouldn't own the copyright to the world or characters, this would be a very messy area. I hope you have a good legal advisor, for this deal. =) May the seas be your solace and the forests a refuge for your spirit, Cennydd Councilor of Mist Kenneth Allen Hyde | No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife Univ. of Delaware | between the shoulder blades will seriously Dept. of Linguistics | cramp his style -- Old Jhereg proverb kenny-+AT+-Udel.Edu | A mind is a terrible toy to waste! -- Me //www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/prof/ken.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Mar 2000 15:49:06 -0600 From: "Susan O'Neal" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Freindship ring Message-ID: <2.2.32.20000307214906.008990e4-+AT+-intcon.net> *Kitanya stands up, Black silk swirling about her legs, and walks across the hall, side-stepping sheep and sporks alike, to come to stand in from of Erin's chair. She considers for a moment, then allows a bright, grateful smile to bring radiance to her face. "Thank you," she blushes modestly, "I shall do it gladly." She takes the ring gingerly from Kitanya, then places it on her left ring finger beside her golden claddagh with the heart pointing inwards.* Erin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2000 16:31:26 -0800 From: "Claire de Loon" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: RE: Freindship ring Message-ID: <200003080031.QAA14610-+AT+-mail8.bigmailbox.com> Please take me off this list.
