I'm a lurker, but since it's spring break, I can read some of my e-mail! YAY! At some point, someone asked about new Misty books. I dunno any actual dates, but the forthcoming books, according to Misty's letter sent on the Firebird Arts mailing list, are : _The Serpent's Shadow_ - "it is a retelling of Snow White. Maya Witherspoon is a half hindu, half English doctor in London in the early 1900's; she fled India after the death of her father, who was also a doctor. Her father died of snakebite; Maya suspects magic was involved, but doesn't know enough about her own magic abilities to be sure. The "seven dwarves" are seven pets she brough with her from India: two mongooses, a peacock, a parrot, an owl, a saker falcon, and a monkey." _Honor Among Thieves_ - "about Skif, and will end when he meets Talia." _Knight's Gambit_ - "about Alberich, and will include the time of the Tedrel Wars." _The White Apparition_ - an Arthurian tale, from the perspective of Guinevere _Beyond World's End_ - A collaboration with Eluki bes Shahar - "in which Eric Banyon moves to New York City to finish his education and the city has other ideas about what he should do; it should be done around the end of May so check with Baen Books about then to find out when it will be published." _Spirits White as Lightening_ - the sequel to _Beyond World's End_ _Dark Waters_ - collaboration from Baen - "with a fellow named Flint; it is set in an alternate Venice, full of Inquisitors, a College of Magic, swamp-dwelling lunatics, intrigue and assassination, and oh yes, riots. And that's on the quiet days." Well, that's all I know, so I hope that satisfies anyone's curiosity. If you've never been, I strongly suggest visiting Firebird Arts at http://www.firebirdarts.com . They've got lots of Misty stuff. Unfortunately, housework calls, so Zhai'helleva, and chocolate mousse sheep to everyone! Songwind -- Emily, a/k/a... Message-ID: Hey there, everybody... Since all the lurkers and old crones like me are coming out of the woodwork, does anybody know whatever happened to Catherine "Sundancer" Osborne? Last I knew she was off to college at Cornell, and that's the last I heard three years ago. 'Course, she might still be there. Would she be a senior by now? *shake head* Dunno...I'm getting old and resenting it, thanks very much. :) Zhai'helleva-- --Icewolf ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Apr 2000 19:00:48 -0700 (PDT) From: freddie mac To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: firebird url & misty newsletter Message-ID: <20000405020048.20290.qmail-+AT+-web3407.mail.yahoo.com> hi guys -- here's the url & i've pasted in the april newsletter. there's some stuff about upcoming books, highflight is being taken down & revamped, etc. go to the url & you can sign up for the newsletter. firebird-+AT+-firebirdarts.com on 09/05/2005 02:59:39 AM Subject: Mercedes Lackey Mailing 4/1/00 Message from Mercedes Lackey Spring is Sprung and the Saps are Running We've all survived the Y2K hype, so here are the plans for future books. Right now, I am working on the first of three "retellings" of fairy tales. This will be called THE SERPENT'S SHADOW; it is a retelling of Snow White. Maya Witherspoon is a half hindu, half English doctor in London in the early 1900's; she fled India after the death of her father, who was also a doctor. Her father died of snakebite; Maya suspects magic was involved, but doesn't know enough about her own magic abilities to be sure. The "seven dwarves" are seven pets she brough with her from India: two mongooses, a peacock, a parrot, an owl, a saker falcon, and a monkey. The next Valdemar book will be HONOR AMONG THIEVES, about Skif, and will end when he meets Talia. After that will be KNIGHT'S GAMBIT, about Alberich, and will include the time of the Tedrel Wars. Also in the (relatively near) future, will be my attempt at an Arthurian book, THE WHITE APPARITION, from Guinevere's point of view. Eluki bes Shahar is collaborating with me on the next Bedlam Bards book, BEYOND WORLD'S END in which Eric Banyon moves to New York City to finish his education and the city has other ideas about what he should do; it should be done around the end of May so check with Baen Books about then to find out when it will be published. Following that will be a sequel to that, SPIRITS WHITE AS LIGHTNING. There's another collaboration coming up from Baen, DARK WATERS, with a fellow named Flint; it is set in an alternate Venice, full of Inquisitors, a College of Magic, swamp-dwelling lunatics, intrigue and assassination, and oh yes, riots. And that's on the quiet days. When I'm not writing, I'm having a grand time doing art-beadwork, various forms of needlework (mostly counted cross-stitch), and some sewing. I HIGHLY recommend the new medieval costume patterns from the major pattern companies for anyone looking to make Herald costumes. Who'd have thought we'd ever have good costume patterns in WallMart??? There's also some fantastic turn-of-the-century stuff there too, including "Titanic" dresses. And while I'm recommending things, check out a place called Phoenix Fabrics for great fabric deals! The URL is: http://www.phoenixtextiles.com It just so happens they have some terrific deals on....white. On the rehab front, we are playing host to four right now: A Barred Owl (Hedwig) with a broken wing, a Great Horned Owl (Attidude) with wing damage from a shotgun blast, a second GHO (Sparky) who had a collision with a power-line and is probably the luckiest bird alive, and a male Redtail Hawk (Sojourner) with a broken leg. Sparky amazingly enough only had minor burns to one talon and her eyelid; half of her feathers were fried away, leaving only the shafts (she looks rather porcupine-y on one side). Evidently the charge ran along her feathers and the surface of her skin; usually these accidents completely fry the unfortunate bird. And yes, Hedwig is named for Harry Potter's owl---we LOVE the Harry Potter books, and I'm as impatient as any of you for the next one! We now have a snake as well as all the parrots, a Ball Python named Xena (well, she's black and gold, okay? And you don't want to put your hand too close to her when she's hungry, so it seemed appropriate.) If you see anything from a user called "mistydesk", that's my replacement for Mark Shepherd, a lovely English fellow named Paul Fisher, who's taken over the fanmail and fanposts for me. The "HighFlight" site has been shut down, and we are building a brand new (hopefully very, very spiffy) one, under mercedeslackey.com. So don't panic when you get the old 404 message at HighFlight. The people who are doing this new site have all kinds of nifty ideas, and it will be a good thing to have this professionally taken care of. Other than that...well, our good friend Dr. Irene Pepperberg could use some help, so hey, check out the auction or see if you can spare a couple of dollars for a direct contribution, okay? Thanks, all! Misty __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! You can check the site out for yourself at "www.mzbfm.com". Things still seem to be going strong.
