Message-ID: <20000412204341.30284.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Hello everyone. I'm new 'round here, but I've read all the... Shoot! Well, the Valdamar books (I like that word better anyways) And was wanting to get into a few of her other series/books. Any suggestions on where I should start? >>OB Misty: if you were deserted on a desert island, and you could have ONE >>Misty book with you, and ONE only (work with me here), what would it be >>and why?. >By the Sword, naturally. :) It was the first Misty book I read, and to date >my favorite... I'll have to say the same, and, wild! It was my first too! >>Does anyone think that Vanyel will come back as a Companion?. No, or at least not any time soon (as in, if Lackey gets desprete, she might do it ;) He's cool as a forest spirit! Like in the short story in Sword of Ice (I think... I'm prolly confuzzed...) Long list here, but my all time favourite has to be Tolkien. The other fantasy books I read are: Darkover (MZB), The Adept (Katharine Kurtz), Elizabeth Moon's works, Anne McCaffrey, especially her Dragonrider books, the Renshai books and a few others. Almost too many to mention but here goes: Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner series starting with Luck in the Shadows. Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series Tanya Huff....just about anything I've ever read of hers especially love Fire's Stone and Summon the Keeper Judith Tarr's historical fiction especially The Hound and the Falcom and Lord of Two Lands Anne McCaffrey...again just about anything Christopher Moore hilarious author really twisted best book is Lust Lizards of Melancholy Cove...the title pretty much tells you what type of writer he is Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and her Mummy book Alice Borchardt's werewolf series, she's Anne Rice's sister but her writing tends to be more historical fiction and less horror Melanie Rawn's Dragon series Poppy Z. Brite's Drawing Blood is one of my all time favorite books....wonderful Lost Souls is good too For an obmisty I just finished re reading Oathbreakers for the billionth time, still love it even though I practically have it memorized. I happened to glance at the cover blurb and almost died laughing. Is it just me or does it sound like something Leslac would have written about Tarma and Kethry? Yup i agree thaqts pretty hard to decide. David Eddings' Belgariad is good, but it drags on and on awfully. Jordan's wheel of time is not bad either, but sometimes you can get confused cuz the plot's really really vast. Harry Potter's nice too. oh yeah, theres the Dark sun rising or something, but i forgot the author's name. Her majesty's wizard by ?? is good too, if youre half into sci-fiction. Could that be Black Sun Rising by C.S. Friedman? Part of her Coldfire Trilogy. It is really good!!!!! She has also written 3 excellent SF books. >Her majesty's wizard by ?? Christopher Stasheff. My favorite authors include Elizabeth Moon, David Gemmell (an English fantasy writer), Roger Zelazny, the above mentioned C.S. Friedman, Jack Vance, etc. There is too many to mention them all. need an obmisty..., Oh, yeah: I don't really want a new book/serie with Vanyel, even if he is my favorite character. He has been well-rounded off, so no need to drag him in again. The person I'd like to see something about, is Lissa, his sister. There are several reasons for that, first, she is one of the best non-herald secondary characters, Misty has made, and it would be interesting to see a book about the stuff she'd done, secondly - she is my hero; didn't she defend Vanyel several times? Doesn't that make her derserve a book in her own right? And lastly; it could be nice with a book or serie not focused on magic/talents - I get a bit tired of only hearing about heralds/mages etc., and one of the reasons I really lover BTS was that the mages only held secondary roles in most of the book. Well, according to Misty, he won't be. At DragonCon(? Anyone remember which DragonCon it was that Kory got this tidbit?) one year, one of our former list-sibs asked her about that and she said that Van and Stefen are gone "to Bermuda." Essentially, that their work is done and they've gone to there great reward. Which just goes to show that Misty doesn't know much about Gay culture or she would have sent them to P-town. =) hmmmm, Bermuda? pity, I would have liked hearing about where Van and Stef would have gone.... the end of the storms said that they "made some decisions" and something about them choosing where they wanted to go, and there was a rush to get them there, (which is why they weren't in that last scene, with Florian and Need), but I thought that meant that they were reincarnated.... >>This is completely off-topic, but I've already got my ObMisty in, so here goes: Is the phenomenon of "gay towns" and "gay resorts" (like P-town, Fire Island, Rehoboth, and others) a strictly American phenomenon or do other countries have the same thing? Anyone in other countries know about similar towns? well, I think there are a few places in Australia.... It's not like >LHM or some of the other books where there are large chunks missing and >just enough info on what's missing to drive a person nuts :-) Sword of Ice had some good stories of Vanyel background. There was the one that was alluded to about "that young officer on the Karsite border", there was one of Vanyel, Yfandes, and Stefen as "ghosts" in the Forest of Sorrows....I think Misty made a good choice "farming" out those other vignettes to get some other perspective. Stefen wasn't there... that story in Sorrows was set 30 years after Van died, and Stef was still alive.... Van said something about wishing Stef was there. *sticks tongue out* vegemite flavoured sheep for everyone who wants them!!!!!
