I would like to hear more about the Empire, and maybe the new King of Hardorn. I mean, the Empire has hardly been touched upon :). Too true, I'd like her to write about Iftel(maybe even a whole series like she did for Valdemar!), which she describes as an odd kingdom that keeps to itself. Maybe we could suggest? As for the most powerful mage, well I would have to say Urtho!. Ma'ar as Learath was defeated by Vanyel and Y'fandes combined, and Vanyel was more powerful than Firesong and An'desha in Storms. Hmmm. I think, however, that Urtho had the advantage with knowledge, a lot of which was lost during the Catycalsm (sp?). Who had more inate talent though?. Well, I actually think that Ma'ar was cleverer(in the cunning sort of way) if not stronger in terms of mage strenght. Yes, but he was defeated by Vanyel AND Yfandes combined, and didn't Firesong comment in one of the Winds(I think) book that he'd hate to confront Falconsbane without a group of adept mages? Anyway, he was the one who survived for such a long time, like for a few thousand years? Urtho had more talent though, he was the one who invented gryphons, (I'd say that is a great accomplishment) and all Ma'ar did was copy the idea. Pleaze Pleaze, does anyone here have the CDs of Misty's songs??(any one will do) Puleaze send me 1 via email!!! I can't stand to wait three months for the pakage to arrive!! Pretty Pleaze!!! I never bought > that ... and that's just my opinion (humble as it is.... :-) That's exactly how I feel about it. 1) Misty PURPOSELY showed he was an arrogant smartass bastard, and she did it so well that her attempt to humanize him, or whatever, completely failed on me (probably not an equal attempt) which is most of the reason why (plus Karal...I just don't care...) stopped reading Storms. I mean, I just CAN'T follow Firesong around and sympethize with him. It's not that I abhor the man, it's just that he irritates me, he's boring, I don't care, and his attitude shouldn't just be "okay" with everybody. :P Oy, rantage. ;) Erin (whose sister apparantly put down LHM for Sweet Valley High because it was "so much easier." *Erin bangs head her head on the wall*) I'll be going home today and we'll see if she's picked it back up yet... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 09:26:58 -0700 (PDT) From: josh gillie To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Most powerful mage(ML)A confusing thinggg Message-ID: <20000415162658.28128.qmail-+AT+-web308.mail.yahoo.com> You can get the CDs at http://www.firebirdarts.com --- Firedance Leydane wrote: > Heyla guys, I hope this is counted as an OB Misty > > Tamlin wrote: > Someone mentioned it might be nice for Misty to > write > about places other than Valdemar. No, I also love the part in MPawn when Vanyel and 'Lendal pretend to fight. And...the face off between Elspeth and Hulda in the end of the Winds series, love that too. So I'm not that morbid!!!! In general, good books, but I wanted to beat Terisa into the ground at times.... "He's evil, do you hear me! Evil! Evil! Eeeeeeeeeeeevil!" She really is excessively cluesless and she keeps on screwing over the good guys out of sheer stupidity. <> Well... if Tylendel had come back as a Herald, he wouldn't have been what Vanyel needed: someone balanced enough to stand up to Van's instabilities, someone selfsih enough to stick to him, someone not devoted to a Higher Cause. Heralds in general, as noted several times in the books, tend to think they're supposed to put themselves last and not be selfish... even the well-balanced ones. Vanyel was self-sacrificing enough for two; if Stef had been a Herald, he probably wouldn't have been able to justify hanging onto Van the way he did. There's also the fact that, had he been a Herald, he'd have had duties that would have possibly precluded doing things like packing up and chasing Van north towards Leareth. And, it's a nice little circular conclusion to their relationship... in the beginning, it's Tylendel being a Herald and Van asking 'Why?', and so now that Van's a Herald, Stef is the one asking 'Why?' He's sort of an outside view for Van; something safe and stable and non-Heraldic to steady himself with. A la the song "Black Balloon," "I'll become / What you became to me..." Thinking on what Lendel said to Vanyel in that dream about "not loving him enough" and wanting to make it up to him, I'd say that as a Bard Stefan could devote much more of his time to Vanyel than he would have as a Herald ~ off putting himself in danger as well. You named a couple of my favourites too, with the Vanyel scenes. My favourite has to be the last chapter or so of MPrice. If I am doing a straight read (2 or 3 hours) and get it just right, I end up with tears in my eyes. However, 9 times out of ten, my parents inevitably interrupt and break the mood (usually just at the point when Stef discovers the broken mage focus). I also like the scene where Tylendel dies. I guess this is my favourite set of books by Lackey > Finduilas http://www.spiderspace.net/finduilas/index.htm Now updated with new topics and a message board. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 15:02:44 EDT From: Syara3-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Mages Message-ID: <19.2b728f9.262a16d4-+AT+-aol.com> Urtho would be the most powerful. I haven't read of any other mages capable of creating an original free-thinking beings like the Gryphons and think of the concentration, discipline and power, it took to create them. Fave scenes, this is a bit mrobid but the one of Tylendal's death(always good to read when you need a good cry), in MPromise, Sovven(sp?) Night when Van's creating Tylendal's illusion. The last scene in Arrows Fall with the bouquet of flowers. The one that make you cry.
