All my memories of his arragance made it seem amusing. I might be misrembering (I really need to start rereading these books!). All I can say is that some of his scenes in the Owl saga were so darn compassionate and sweet that I almost gave up my sugar addiction. For all that he had his problems I don't remember him ever being cruel or a bad person...and since my standards are pretty low that gets my vote of confidence. As for characters i didn't like...I think there were many characters who i didn't like how they behaved or i just got very frustrated with, just about every character has done that! But i really can't say that I disliked any characters. Umm, i think that the companions' foals would be like normal(Like a baby of two married humans). I mean, it probably isn't like the real world here, they could just have a foal if they felt like it and the foal wouldn't be labled a bastard... Well, you get my drift. I say go for it. No, I don't think it's a good idea, unless it's part of a message you'd send anyway, since it would generate too much mail which might not interest others. If people want to make that kind of one-word stories you might want to make your own mailing list for it. I for one get plenty of mail without having to look through a lot of one-word messages which will add up to a whole story some time in the future. Another thing, I maintain a list of the MLML peoples' homepages at Http://www.angelfire.com/wa/Absalon if people want their homepage added mail me (privately!) the URL and the name of the homepage, and I'll add it as soon as possible. Someone said about Firesong (yeah, have to have an obMisty), that the Hawkbrothers look at each other differently, and that explains why he is such an arrogant person, which could perhaps be true, but I have never really liked the Hawkbrothers either, not since TLHM at least. They have turned into some sort of Elves mixed with Hippies and powerful Mages - they are arrogant, powerful, obnoxious and boring. And every time there is some sort of major problem half of them start whining (often lead by Firesong). I am not a fan of the Hawkbrothers. And I still hate Firesong. Couldn't we see something about Valdemar instead? Perhaps something about Lissa as I've said before. Oh, well - I'm looking forward to Brightly Burning. I'm Rachel, 25 years old, from near London, England... I started reading Mercedes Lackey when I found The Black Gryphon in my local library about 6 years ago, and I've since bought all the Valdemar books I can find (had to get some on mail order from the US because they don't seem to have been published in Britain - either that or they're out of print...) I've also collected some of the Bardic Voices books, but my US editions are starting to fall apart! Hmmm - just been reading the page for Newbie's - I must admit I was wondering what all the sheep were about... :) BTW - why can't I get the faq and the rules of thumb mailed to me? Anyway - later, ppl!!! Rachel ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have to add my two cents to the discussion. I never have, and can't seem to see myself ever, liking Firesong. Elspeth either. If it weren't for the fact that they were Van's descendants, I would never have made it as far in the Mage Winds/Storms books as I did. And unless there is something *amazing* that happens after 1/3 into Storm Breaking to change Firesong and/or Elspeth, I don't like either, and the high point of the books were when they visited the Forest of Sorrows.
