I know of this happening once and I don't want to say where because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read them yet. (Awesome Scene, BTW) >**Puts on her Asbestos Flameing suit** Now, I did like Firesong. I probably wouldn't get along with him in person, but I understand his character. He's good at what he does. He's good looking. He's young. He has everythinig going for him and he is comfortable in that. In the Winds books, I think it was portrayed as a confidence rather than an arrogance. In the Storms books, he was arrogant while he was researching Ma'ar, which was, I think, a result of his mental illness at the time. Once he got over that, he was easier to get along with again. Still coming across as arrogance but, I think, he was still just exuding a confidence that I don't think all of us can. Semi-sweet dark chocolate sheep to you all... Hmm...I was at Forbidden Planet in London last week, and they had a pretty good selection of Valdemar stuff there - probably all of it, though can't be sure. Far as I know, it's all been published over here...as ever, the US just gets it first. Ditto the Bardic Voices stuff, and they had some of her other books too - the urban fantasies etc. Just thought you and any other London/near-London based folk on-list might find this useful, hence posted to the whole list... Heard a rumour recently about Misty taking over the Darkover universe since MZB's death, think someone may have mentioned it on here. Anyone able to confirm this yet? I have read one or two but that's about it. Tannim is the one in the Serrated Edge series, right. And Eric, Kory and Beth are in the other, does that one have a 'name' so to speak?. Has there been any crossovers between these books? That's the best I could do at this late hour, but at least it is something. => ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nicole" To: Sent: Wednesday, April 19, 2000 9:09 PM Subject: About The One-Sentence-Story... > > --------------9966E4165264372DC7A4DEF2 > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > "Heyla Listsibs!" > "OK, since we've had that smidgen of controversy over the story idea > I've decided that every-one who wants to add to the story should write > so on the list. Re what Tristan said: In the Winds books, I think it was portrayed as a confidence rather than an arrogance. In the Storms books, he was arrogant while he was researching Ma'ar, which was, I think, a result of his mental illness at the time. Once he got over that, he was easier to get along with again. Still coming across as arrogance but, I think, he was still just exuding a confidence that I don't think all of us can. I have to agree with that. How many people in this world are extremely confident?. I think it is a reflection on the society we live in, but how many people have met someone and thought of them as arrogant rather than confident?. Also, can anyone remember when Firesong first started acting, well, irrationally?. When he first got to Haven, or before?. Actually, I think that is what got me about Elspeth. Does anyone else think she was very confident?. Vanyel never was, and neither was Talia come to think of, or Karal. Kerowyn was, but she seemed to come across as efficient rather than arrogant. (No flames from all the Kerowyn fans; that was a compliment :). Tantris&Rolan, what book are you talking about?. A Companion dying for one not his or her Chosen. I suppose it could happen, maybe like the fact that Keren and teren thought Rolan might chose either of them as Queen's Own, and they were already Chosen. I still can't get my head around that one!. Anone have any ideas?. Also, regarding Companions having foals that may be returning Heralds, if they are returning Heralds, then they have to, well grow up again, don't they?. All of this thinking has led me to another question, which I can't think of......so I'll finish up and get back to Owlsight :). Wind to thy Wings, tamlin PS I had to add this in; NZ is WAY behind the US and the UK when it comes to getting new books. Also, living in the Southern Hemisphere means that books cost more because of the extra postage costs :). Oh well, at least I have the Internet to preorder books on, and I have heard a rumor that the 4th Harry Potter book may be released world-wide, and so we may get it the same time as everyone else, not months behind like usual. A small price to pay for living in almost paradise :). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2000 11:02:09 EDT From: TantrisandRolan-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Lots of things :) Message-ID: <6a.20448f7.263075f1-+AT+-aol.com> this might spoil the ending for the Storms Trilogy so dont read this if you don't want to know what happens at the end.... if u want to know....scroll down. (No flames from all the Kerowyn fans; that was a compliment :). That's kinda what I was saying, yes. The level of self-confidence he exudes is just unfamiliar to a society that is so unsure of itself. Notice that Firesong's personality changes didn't really come into play until he was "shown up" by Vanyel when his gate got re-routed to the Forest of Sorrows. With self-confidence that strongly ingrained getting smacked down so dynamically, I wouldn't be surprised if he did start exhibiting behaviour where he is sulky and arrogant...
