She has forms, including the (c) one usually used for permission to write fanfictions. If you edit that to your needs, send it the same way, making sure to say that it'll be seen by list members, she may or may not choose to let you. Nicole Said: "OK, does anyone know how I can get permission from the ALL MIGHTY, DIVINE, AND POWERFUL *Genuflects and crosses herself* Mercedes Lackey to make drawings of certain scenes from her books and send them around the list? I'm trying to start a fantasy cover art thingamajig and I just got an idea that this woud be a good way to display some fantasy-art. I have already drawn some of the critters from her books and I think some dramatic scene from her books (ie. When 'Lendel throws himself from the bell-tower) would be a great way to start off!" Now, BARN OWLS! Yee-haw! I held one for hours on end on Saturday. We called him King Louis after that insane french king. It was for a Nature Center event, you see. We brought our birds (barred owl Sid Vicous...Bubo the great horned...Tara the red-tailed...and Morgan the -new- merlin...then from another nature center we borrowed the Barn Owl and a Screech Owl. This was my first time holding anything larger than a Screech owl, but this was easier. The screech owl was fully blind, Louis was just imprinted. He wouldn't sit right on my glove, HAD to sit one foot on index finger, the other on the end of my thumb. Still a cool experience. I'll show ya'all the pix later. I got these awsome sculpted leather earrings at a wildlife art show, they're mocking red-tailed tail feathers. Link link : http://www.geocities.com/veralidainev/red-tailedearrings.jpg Enjoy all! The cleaning process for getting rid of it is a bit of a pain, too. OBMisty: Do you think the effect of the engineers or artisans introduced in Mage Storms will cause problems for Valdemar? If you have opened the email but have not downloaded the file, just delete the message out of hand. If you have opened the email and have downloaded the file but not executed the file, just delete the file (and the message for good measure). If you have opened the email, downloaded the file, AND executed it, run your anti-virus software, and it should detect the virus and "cure" your computer of it. Make sure you have the latest update to whatever anti-viral software you may have, be it McAfee, Norton, or whatever. If you have opened the email, downloaded the file, executed it, and don't have anti-viral software, you're in kind of big trouble. If you have a Gateway or similarly mass-produced computer that has a technical assistance line, use it. That's the best advice an old helpdesk operater can offer. Anyone else have any suggestions? It's a fully functional version but it expires after something like 6 months. As for the cleaning process for Happy99, McAfee and Norton can only do so much. Also on the McAfee site is a step-by-step on how to clean it. Some registry edits, some ini-file edits, some DLL file replacements and it's done. http://www.mcafee.com/ Tristaan -- Robert Martin http://home.ptd.net/~rmartin3 "There exists no dream worth chasing if it cannot satisfy. Okie, slightly off-Misty-topic here, but for those of you who know me and care (lol) I'm back in the States and currently in Massachusettes. My hellish tour in Korea is over, and I hope to never step foot there again!! On a brighter note, while in Missouri (been to AL, MO, TN, and MA so far; GA is the only stop left!) I got engaged, and am MOST happy with that!!!!!!!! (note the exclamation mark number!) Thought I'd share that with my Listsibs!! And for an ob-Misty........ Since I've been out of the country (and decent civilization; don't get me wrong, Korea is nice, just being in the Army in Korea sucks) I've kinda been out of the loop on some of the books, and can't for the life of me remember what the title of the newest SERRAted Edge series collection is. I remember some of you complaining that it fooled you at first, thinking it was a new book, until you looked and found it was a collection. Could someone help my silly self out?? Next (can you hear the premonitory strains of "O Fortuna"?) > If you have opened the email, downloaded the file, AND executed it,.... Why would anyone do this? Is there anyone who doesn't know better? This is just a reminder to everyone from one of your friendly Councilors: DO NOT ACCEPT EXECUTABLE FILES! If you have your email program set to accept and run them automatically, turn that feature off. You cannot get a virus on you computer if you don't run them. The only exception to this (that I know of) is the very small number of "template" viruses in Word. Basically, the rule of thumb for downloading is "never accept a file from a stranger, and check and double-check files from friends." That includes any files you find on the web, on email, on IRC, on various chat networks, on ftp sites, or anywhere else. If, knowing the dangers, people insist on downloading and running unknown (or even famous) files, they have only themselves to blame when their computer is devoured by mutant wyrsa. After all, "if you keep alligators in the house, you must expect to be bitten...and deserve it!"
