[ducks and hides under the nearest piece of concealment] I met up with some Misty fans I met through Q.O. about 6 years ago, we met up every year. It was in London again this time. Well of the 5 of us only 2 bought the book, the rest of us have kind of gone off the boil after the last few books. Don't get me wrong, I still love LHM, Arrows, Vows + Honor and BTS, but the first 2 owls books kind of muted my desire to buy the 3rd. Will find out soon what BB is like and take it from there depending on what those two say. I ask 'cause I preordered it from Amazon and don't have it ... whilst it appears that had I gone to Amazon on Friday and ordered it I would have it by now. thanks. obmisty: I was re-reading the storms trilogy and a few things kinda struck me this time: 1. Darkwind doesn't know how to approach Elspeth, p 69 in WoC, and he says basically that he doesn't know the ways of her people but that it may be that they reserved sexual liasons for bondmates only. well, this is after skif and nyara have had a "liason" - so this time through (only my fifth or so) it didn't make sense why he thought that way ... any ideas? 2. Skif ... why didn't Talia do some mind-healing? why did it go on as long as it did? Talia and skif are close ... you'd think she would have noticed something and done something about it. 3. Gwena - first she says most definitely when asked by Elspeth that she is NOT a mage, but then she is (and misty handles it by saying she was keeping info from Elspeth) ... but I thought by her nature gwena couldn't tell a falsehood ... any ideas? okay, kinda nitpicky but when you re-read and re-read stuff different things pop into your head when you read betha'lis, offering chocolate chocolate chocolate truffles semi-shaped like sheep (if you squint some) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 May 2000 11:41:05 EDT From: TrinityWch-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: ML: getting BB, Storms questions Message-ID: <46.50a1cb9.26483a11-+AT+-aol.com> In a message dated Mon, 8 May 2000 10:41:26 AM Eastern Daylight Time, Julia Gray writes: << For those who saw/got Brightly burning in the US ... where did you see it? if you pre-ordered it, from whom did you pre-order? >> I pre-ordered my copy thru Amazon.com. No matter what kind of email client program you are using (or netbrowser for that matter), you should ALWAYS have it set so that it does not automatically open attachements or downloads. If there is no way to set your email program like this, GET ANOTHER PROGRAM! No matter how cool the program may seem in other ways, it's not worth the security risk (email virii are usually fairly harmless, but they can be really nasty, and do you really want to lose every bit of data on your computer, or even random parts of it?) > Also if you're going to pass on a virus warning please please pass on > a source (like CNN or Macafe or your business's help desk). there are > too many hoaxes out there that don't need to get spread around. This is also important. As far as sending a virus warning to the Misty List, please be sure of your facts and then pass it on to Mel or a Councilor with documentation (websites where the warning is reported, etc.) Most virus warnings are hoaxes which do nothing but put strain on email servers. More than one server has crashed because of well-meaning virus warnings. > Back to reading papers on mantle mineralogy. guh. Ooooo. This sounds fun...and we can make it misty related. Or, even if she did notice and have time, it seemed something that he didn't really want to talk about. Doesn't it say something about him not even talking to his Companion about? If he didn't actually talk to her I don't think she could have done much - I'm thinking of the way she fixed his fear of storms here. > 3. No, and it drives me nuts. It says almost everywhere that it's not possible to lie mind-to-mind and yet here you have Gwenna telling Elspeth that she is NOT a mage and you have Elspeth telling Darkwind she's not attracted to Firesong. So much for not being able to lie... > okay, kinda nitpicky but when you re-read and re-read stuff different > things pop into your head when you read You should see my books. Dog eared to death - each of those pages having something questionable about them. WoC is the worst though. I've often wondered if Misty just doesn't care about inconsistencies, remembers incorrectly without looking, doesn't keep her originals anywhere near her when she's writing, or doesn't know that there are people out there that you can pay to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen. It's not that it ruins the story or anything but some of them are pretty blatant... -- Paige Proud Mother of Victoria 04/24/98 and ??? 05/??/00 GO LEAFS!!!
