OK, about heating the Tayladras' vale's hot pools didn't Misty say (this was in Magic's Pawn) that it was a natural hot spring. I believe she did because I just finished re-reading that book and I recall Vanyel's speculation on them being that way. I just finished re-reading it too...I think I noticed Van's thoughts going along that line too. So they wouldn't be heated by magic, they would be heated by geothermal energy!" I think it says somewhere in Darian's Tale that the springs are natural hot springs ENHANCED...that is to say, a small fissure in the rock with warm water flowing through it is widened and guided to come out in a convenient place; the temperature of the water is raised slightly, I think, but I'm not sure about the means to that; it may be magic from the heartstone feeding into it. "Sorry, not saying that it couldn't work it's just I'm against the idea of sci-fi and Fantasy mixing. I mean they shouldn't even speak to each other (if the writing styles were people that is! LOL!)! I believe that's what ruined the other-wise OK (but no where near Misty quality) Pern novels. I will agree with you whole-heartedly there. There is only one Fantasy/Sci-Fi mix I like; Peirs Anthony's Apprentice adept, and even there the aspects of each world are kept fairly separate. I think pre-AIVAS Pern was a lot better than after-AIVAS Pern...just my opinion. That's the whole point of Fantasy...it's different from our world, and when you start to add in technology, you start making it more and more like modern day Earth. Once you add in too many aspects of OUR world, the intrigue starts to die and the series sort of fades away... And I think that she might have to turn a great book series, which I and all of my peers love, into a horrible sci-fi / Fantasy monstrosity." Hmm...I'm wondering how she could pull it off. I know there's the Telesons and stuff, but they've been around since Urtho's time anyway, and although the blues come up with new devices, a lot of them require a certain degree of magic. But good luck. Sorry I couldn't help >> I have a possible solution for whoever the list sib is that is having trouble unsubscribing... I had to unsubscribe my work addy once..well, while I was still subscribed to the list, our people changed my e-mail addy. So when I tried to unsubscribe, it wouldn't work becuase Vanyel didn't recognize the 'sending' e-mail address (which had become my new addy). Since there was no way I could change my 'sending' e-mail back, I simply wrote Mel and explained the whole thing to her. She was great and completely understood, and changed my e-mail to the one I preferred. I know you are completely unsubscribing...but it may work! :):) If you can't make the automatic thing work, that may be why. Just write Mel...I'm sure she'll be glad to help. Hope this helps... Mmm...ObMisty....Haven't read Burning Brightly yet. Is it more the young adult style or more gritty, like The Black Gryphon? I'm a lurker and haven't posted in a dog's age..but this is Stormlight..for those of you who may remember me. Cheers to all...peanut butter sheep to all!
