Also, he watches his village destroyed and his teacher's death at the hands of the Barbarians. If that isn't traumatizing, then (short of losing a lifebond) what is? <> I agree. Misty seems to have a lot af Characters in the Gryphon books without tragic past stories; maybe this is b/c they are in the active fight against the original Ma'ar, and HE is the full time anagonist, so she doesn't NEED a poor state of mental health to add to the problem. The battle is enough to hold interest without resorting to the Angst-ridden device.^^ <> So he was born before Darkwind and Elspeth, and Ma'ar's spirit posessed him before they were born, but he has less life experience than they do, simply because he was not in control of his body. Message-ID: <20000613172854.81437.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> >>I think they say something about An'desha leaving the plains to seek out the Hawkbros and have his gift trained, right? well, don't gifts usually manifest earlier in life? I mean, most Chosen are between the ages of 12-30, I thought, or something like that. Wouldn't 100 or so be a little old for him to be discovering mage-gift? ~Song<< Oh yeah! They did have that little bit about him leaving the clan. I'd forgotten it. But that's not exactally what I meant; I thought Ma'ar had taken over An'desha's body a hundred or so years ago, when he was 12-30 (I formed a mental image of him 16-18, but that's just me), and Andesha was now like over 100, while his body looked as young as it had before because Ma'ar had kept it young... But I remeber the part you're talking about now, so I'm probably mistaken... unless it was a flashback...? Oh well, I'm too lazy to get the book ~grins sheepishly~ >>Andesha was a teen (about 16 or so, this was mentioned in the Storms series) when he fled for the Hawkbrothers. Storms mentioned that Andesha would have been about the age of Firesong's parents had he not been possessed by Falconsbane. In Owlflight, Starfall is said to be in his 70's... or so. So, Andesha is a 16 y/o in his 70's. :-) Remember, the Star Eyed returned the years Falconsbane stole from him when she healed him of being a Changechild in WOF. -wintersong<< Yes! That is what I meant! Not actually 100 years old, but that's my usual tendency to exagerate :) Thank you wintersong for clearing up what I was trying to say, even if you didn't realize you were doing it ;) >>So he was born before Darkwind and Elspeth, and Ma'ar's spirit posessed him before they were born, but he has less life experience than they do, simply because he was not in control of his body. ~Songjewel << 'Zactly! ~claps hands excitedly~ You all are so good at explaining things that I verbally stumble all over. ;) -SkyTigress On the Internet, nobody knows you're a cat. I don't have textevd, but at some point someone was explaining the Monarch's Own Comapanion, and said, among other things, that "he's always Grove Born, always a stallion, and he never seems to age, though he can be killed." So it wouldn't matter that they noticed Rolan was living that long; he's the MOC, and that's something that they do. Therefore it's probably unlikely that he ever "went away"... all that would do is make another Companion be MOC whilst he was gone, and I think we decided that the point of the MOC living as long as he does is to gather up experience and be a support to the MO. If they don't, I was wondering what will happen now that magic is allowed inside the Borders and mages popping up (since mages are generally the only ones who can tell they're not just fancy horses).
