In the evening, the correct greeting is "konban-wa." BTW, if you want to be really formal, in the morning, you can say "O-haio gozaimasu." Hmmm. ObMisty: well, she has a Japanese "monster" in "Children of the Night," even if it's not terribly authentic. Japanese spirit creatures tend to be mischievious rather than evil. Evil spirits were almost always human (ghosts, kitsune, etc.) Gakki(sp?) are not really dangerous, in any Japanese legends that I've ever seen. I make mistakes. If I'm busy > explaining why vanyel was actually bright green I've probably made a > mistake. Clearly I was thinking of Firesong. Someone (bad delete finger) said that firesong would most likely be luminous (i can't remember if luminous was the exact word but it was bright anyways) pink. I whole heartedly agree with that mental picture!!!!! On the whole Age/Location thing, I am 15 (one of the younger listsibs but by no means the youngest) and live in Southampton on the south coast of England. (which incedentally was *actually* warm today [people rejoiced in the streets, or maybe not, but hey?!?]) On the Companions thing (i forget what the original spark was) wouldn't the Heralds be more inclined to rely more heavily on their Companions for things if they knew the *whole* truth about the extent of their Companions wisdom/powers? To take a modern day example; I am particularly good at maths, so when my close friends have major problems they can't slove they often ask me for help. I don't usually mind giving help provided they are willing to think for themselves as well, but when someone comes to me and expects me to provide the answer i get ticked off with them. I expect that if a Herald came to rely soley (sp) on their Companion then they stop thinking for themselves. I'm gonna stop this thought here coz i've confused myself! Oh, sudden thought, didn't this list once have a birthdays list? I thought that mebbie i could resurect that. Could you e-mail me privately your birthdays so that mebbie once a week (or mebbie less often) we could sing happy birthday to that week's listsibs. Oh and i'd just like to share with my listsibs that it is ONLY 39 DAYS until i get so see my she'enedra/best friend Brynn (Jenny). (For those of you who care, she lives in California and I haven't seen her in 10 months.) I think that's all i have to say at the moment. Oh but congrats to all who have-had/are-having-soon children. Goodluck to you! And you might add to the whole "I'm herald, I'm divine, I'm too good for words" complex that might occur. And you get the same "the reason clergy are forbidden to pray for victory" scenario there too...You get a herald with different beliefs than the people in their Sector, and add a little smackerale of divinity to their person, and you've got serious conflict and borderline religious wars on your hands. -S ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 18:47:21 EDT From: XShadowXBladeIX-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: 'Membering Companions(tired) Message-ID: <8e.6748348.267ab6f9-+AT+-aol.com> In a message dated 6/14/00 5:50:50 PM Central Daylight Time, jaec_songblade-+AT+-yahoo.com writes: << What the Companions didn't want them to know was that they (Companions) were reborn Heralds. If you truly are whom you say you are (and we all know there has been past occurrences of people not being what they truly appear to be) then welcome even more!!! Second - I think I speak for many on this list when I say "Give Misty our love and greetings. Tell her we think she's just swell" and we ask you - make sure she's got what EVER she needs to write the best books as fast as she can possibly stand. Here's a question for you (and maybe the Lady herself): When these books are contracted or "thought up" are they purposely put together as trilogies? (obviously not all of them are, but you get my drift...) Is that something the publishers want to see for selling purposes, or is it more a writer's perspective of "uhh, this story is going to take alot of pages to reach the resolutions I am looking for - probably better do it in book size sections." And another question for you - in Jinx High, Di talks to the high schoolers about "what its like to be a professional writer." - How much of that was Misty's own personal work philosophy - and how much if at all has that changed as she's written more books and found her stride? Hey - if these questions are No-no's in your book...no problem, man. If you don't know the answer, no problem. Just some stuff I was curious about... Again, hope you're legit. Thanks for joining the chaos - May I be the first (I dunno - I get the digest version!) to give you a big SPLOOSH!!! and hand you a sheep covered in towels - or was that towels covered with sheep? -Susan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 20:19:37 -0400 From: "Rhianna Lynn" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: 'Membering Companions(tired) Message-ID: <200006160022.UAA12419-+AT+-core.greenapple.com> Heyla, all! > HOw did theheradle find that out? I'm curious about that one, too, actually. I know it was alluded to several times, but I can't recall where it actually came to light. I recall several places that one of the characters had a double vision of his or her Companion as a horse-shape and then as a person- shape. I believe, also, that Karal saw Florian in the Moonpaths in human-shape. I don't recall where the Heralds actually made the connection, though. Was it actually stated and we missed it or was it just alluded to? I finished Black Swan a while ago. I really enjoyed the last few chapters. I wish Burning Brightly would come out in paperback soon! It sucks not being able to get it in hardback when all of you have read it and I've accidentally read a few spoilers and it's making me crazy to not be able to read the whole story! *grins* Alas, it can't be helped. I'll get the book eventually.
