Well, I'm finally posting. If there's one subject than can get me to delurk, it's sex. :::grin::: I have the 'youngest child syndrome'. Anyway, The intimicy, like with Van and 'Lendle after the fight, the atmosphere was disgustingly sweet. There was no sexual tension only lot of love. And sexual tension is not necessarily a bad thing. It can prove a compelling and even entertaining storyline. It is a factor of life (unless you're asexual like Tarma) and it adds a definite realism to Misty's written relationships, as do the "disgustingly sweet" parts. Now, that doesn't mean I want the story to revolve around it or to hear about it in explicit detail. That's what trashy romance novels are for. But it represents one of the stages of a growing relationship. And that's what complex writing is about...character growth and development.<<< I know that but I was replying to some who couldn't remember me,it was in Digest 2344. We were discussing why her YA's weren't as good as her older ones. Sexual tension and activities have their place when tastefully done, see later in post. I use the term disgustingly sweet because the atmosphere was so thick you could cut it with knife, and you know it was, i love that scene. Hopeless romantic, that's me. <> I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but when I read about a character I find myself living the story right along with them. I feel joy at their joy, sorrow at their sorrow, (etc.) That's why LHM is so depressing. If a character has been anticipating a sexual encounter, then I anticipate it for them too. And once it happens I am happy for them. It is interesting to see in what direction that new development will lead. I feel that way as well. This is how I judge how good a book is, if I sympathize(sp?) with characters is good book, if not never pick book up again. _Of Mice and Men_ didn't cry, disappointed(really don't like Steinbeck, AotQ, met Ylsa once or twice, put book down cried my eyes out. <>(didn't you, Rainwing, already said it was good for character developement?) Exactly. And Misty writes (or used to write) it very tastefully. The sex scenes in AFlight and BtS are neither graphic nor offensive. I have a question. Do you listsibs think that Misty's new YA style is just a phase or do you think it will continue throughout her future books? I'd hate to see the new stories about Skif and Alberich written like that... Dear gods, I hope it's a phase and a very short one, YA has it's place and it's not in Misty's. Obmisty: I noticed that while Misty writes about many gay characters, she doesn't seem to write about many lesbian ones. Unless I am mistaken, the only lesbian characters we actually know anything about are Keren, Sherril, and Ylsa. None of them main characters and all of them lifebonded to eachother. Compared to the list of very significant gay characters like Van, 'Lendel/Stef, Firesong, Silverfox, and An'desha, they seem rather scarce and insignificant. Is there a reason for this? Does Misty have a preference to writing gay rather than lesbian characters? A story from a lesbian point of view might be interesting. Just a thought... I've had this same conversation with Ambermoon, when we first read Valdemar, like three or four years ago. Ambermoon said she might not be able to write a lesbian relationship, maybe she doesn't have any lesbian friends but gay friends and uses some of her friends complaints in her books, I don't know, you write what you know. That was a long post especially for me as my friends will attest, I don't write long things. I'm hungery, platter-toppling-over-with-good-things-to-eat carrying sheep to all hungery listsibs.
