Me too...don't they say something in BB about the
crest of Valdemar having the Windrider breaking out of
it's chains, or something? Since the crest of Valdemar
is a winged horse, I guess there's room for
interpretation there...

Is there a publication of Mercedes that tells the story of Windrider and
Darshay?  I thought I had all the books in the series could I have missed
one?

Hi there!
	I seem to remember a comment in Burning Brightly that Kalira 
made about running as fast as Windrider. I'd assume that places 
Windrider as being the Companion, since the Companions can 
probably run a great deal faster than their Heralds. (;
	I also seem to recall a passage in Arrows about sometimes the 
Companions letting the Heralds name them. Maybe that's why he 
(she?) has more of a Tayledras Take-Name than what I've come to 
think of as a Companion Born-Name.
