MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2356 Topics covered in this issue include: 1) Re: And now for something completely different. by Shane Jonsen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 21:16:20 -0700 (PDT) From: Shane Jonsen To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: And now for something completely different. Message-ID: <20000719041620.21768.qmail-+AT+-web3903.mail.yahoo.com> Guess i'll slip from lurkdom for a little bit... There's two parts to this message, offtopic stuff comes first, so if you want to read the ontopic stuff scroll down through the first portion of the message. i've only glanced at the Harry Potter books, and thought they looked ok...and requested a set for when my B-day comes around later this year :) anyway, there's two series of books i'd like to bring to the list's attention, one is the Stardoc series by S.L. Viehl (Stardoc and Beyond Varallan) and the Sholan Alliance series by Lisanne Norman (Turning Point, Fortune's Wheel, Fire Margins, Razor's Edge, Dark Nadir, and Stronghold Rising) For those interested, both are in the science fiction realm of stories instead of fantasy, but both are quite good in my opionion... In the Stardoc series you follow a young doctor seeking to escape a xenophobic earth and get away from her overbearing father to find a life for herself after finding out a horrible secret. And learns a whole lot more about herself then she ever dreamed in the process The Sholan Alliance series is a bit harder to explain, it starts out as a meeting of the human and sholan races, and developes lots of subplots on the problems that happen when it's found the two races are compatible with each other. Lots of stuff dealing with predjudices and misunderstandings. Now for some OnTopic stuff for the list just so this post isn't worthless :) I'd like to see more of the characters from the short stories featured in Werehunter, with the titles Grey and Grey's Ghost. I really liked both shorts and would love to see an actuall full length book featuring those characters. And of course i'd like to see more dealing with Karal, and how he's dealing with the loss of his sight, and prehaps the remeeting with him and Florian. I also wouldn't mind seeing how Trevan and Hydonna ((sorry if the spellings are off..i dont' have the books with me to double check)) are doing in Valdemar, as well as their offspring (i've got quite a soft spot for gryphons :) ) I also wouldn't mind finding out more about the non-human races that have cropped up, we've heard a lot about the gryphons, and the Kyree, as well as the Dyheli and the Hertasi. but only a quick glimpse into the other race, the Tervardi with just a mention here and there and a quick intro in Owlsight. I'd definatly like to know more about this race. Also, with the Bardic Voices books, there seems to be a rather nice parelle between them and the Valdemar books, I'm kinda always wondered if they might be set on the same world, ie. Bardic's actually in the eastern empire... just an idle thought that's rolled around in my head for a bit. Guess that's my 2 cents (or applicable coin of the realm) for now...
