Second subject first, Would the average Valdemaran know his/her birthday? The month in which they were born? Just the season? Would they know the year? I know Tayledras measure like Indians, 18 summers or however many, but no text on the 'normal' people. Thoughts on this, please. Also, I like the names, don't get me wrong, but how creative would the average Valdemaran mother/father be in naming their children? I know I was spouting about repeating names some time ago, but it's true that this's more practical. Do there seem to be any systems? On Pern (McCafferey) the kids have a name combined of the parents'. Also, I'm suprised there haven't been any little Vanyels in the books. There are basketball players named Jesus in rl, there probably would be little Vans. Course, it would get confusing, so maybe they're there but not recognized. :) Sara, HM Rini, Chosen by Cinna __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The original question was speaking of Valdemar, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts having to do with both. >> Okay, and with the sufferage of the rest of the list I hafta say: You asked for it. Within the realm of Valdemar, most of my thoughts on the subjusct have already been touched on. One, Heralds, Bards and Healers tend to travel more than ungifted folk, making it more likely that they will meet up with their lifebonded. Two, Tayledras are more in tune with spirituality, and do have a better understanding of what a Lifebonding is than most, so they are more likely to recognize it for what it is when a peasant couple will simply consider it love (and there is a difference). But, to not recognize it makes it no less a Lifebond, I might add. And, three, as a writer myself, I have to say, the books are about Heralds, Healers, Bards, and Tayledras. To point out a Lifebond between periferal characters would detract from the focus of the story; in other words, the character may be important to the story, but their relationship isn't....it would just distract the reader and bog down the story. Does that make sense? I sometimes have trouble explaining clearly what I'm thinking. Now, as for RL: That's a Companion of a different color. It also depends on whether or not you honestly believe in past lives as to whether or not you're gonna believe anything I say from here on. I can tell you that I know three people who I am lifebonded to right now. BUT, there are different levels to the Lifebonding...or, at least, different phases, maybe? Let me explain. I remember one of my past lives - only one, but it is ancient and that is the one I am currently focusing on, although I am sure there were more and will look into them if I have time afterr I have learned all I need to from that life. Anyway, In that life, I was a warrior - a high ranking warrior, in fact, the highest ranking warrior in my Tribe, to be blunt, my best friend (who was also a warrior) and I made a blood oath to always protect one another in battle, and, failing that to care for the deceased's family. I was married to the Princess of the Tribe, who eventually became Queen. The three women who I know beyond doubt are my Lifebonds are : this friend/warrior, the Princess/Queen (these two are now a happy couple), and this friend/warrior's mother (Who, ironically enough, is my wife). I would say it was just my imagination, but all four of us have memories of that life, and I still have overwhelming feelings of protectiveness concerning this Princess/Queen, and know that she is well cared for by her current warrior (keep in mind, I have never met Princess or warrior, we met on a mailing list and have talked on the phone a few times, but that is the extent of it.) So, in a nutshell, there you have it, the four of us have only shamanistic abilities, and that only for two of us, and a bit of Mind Magic among us all, but none of it strong enough to count for much. I really do think that when strong bonds are created in one Lifetime, they will repeat in another if in a different form. In otherwords, we will all meet again someday...we just may not recognize each other - I guess. That make any sense?
