She waves at everybody, grinning. And from another branch of the tree, she grabs a large, strawberry shaped bucket and drenches all of the newbies who's welcomes she missed. Then passes out sheep-shaped fluffy towels.* I confess - I haven't been reading my e-mail. :( You aren't the only one, Starjewel. I used to post at least once a day. I don't really recognize any of the names on here, so I think most of the people I remember are gone. But anyway. *~*The mother issue*~* I think that the earlier and later Valdemar books emphasize more of relationships (other than the couple kind) and friendships. The Winds, Storms, and Gryphons series mostly concentrate on couples, not mother/father relationships or friendships. Family, though, is very important in TLHM and the Owls (I don't think that's a spoiler..it doesn't say anything about the series itself..) *~*The wierdness with places*~* I really liked the discription of Pawnee in _When the Bough Breaks_. That describes Pawnee wonderfully, although it does leave out the beautiful square in the middle. There's grass (really vivid green), beautiful flowers, and statues in memory of various famous people of the area. My family (grandparents) lives up there...between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. It's really beatiful. I promise to try to post more, now that I have a class (1 and a half hours) in which I do little more than surf the web. It's supposed to be a webpage design and maintainance class, but since I already know most of this stuff, it doesn't take long. ;P Zhai'helleva, and chocolate-mousse sheep to all! Please forgive me everyone. *offers gourmet hors d'ouevres sheep to all in apology* My e-mail's being funny 'cause I'm trying to send it over our school server, which is slow, 'cause everyone in my class is surfing the 'net. *sigh* At least I don't have to do any work. OBMisty: Uhh...what did everyone think of the Bedlam's Bard books? (_Knight of Ghosts and Shadows_ and _Summoned to Tourney_?) I personally liked them, but that's just MHO. Of course that's what brings out the > crazies, > who can't tell the difference between could be and is.*frown* Ah, > well. > > Dax the Eternal, I think Misty and co. have been a bit too quick to label "the crazies", and far too quick to assume they have something to do with her work. For example, the Otherkin community has been around longer than she has been writing. Yes, they think they are elves and such--no, they don't mean physically, they mean mentally/spiritually, it's religious in a way. I've looked over her site's blurb on this topic, and I've been a bit amused by that--of the 'course the 'kin community enjoyed her work. The same goes for the vamp community, I am afraid--Andre and co are not responsible for that, either, and it's also been around a very long time. I've never heard of a psychic vampire who got the idea from Misty's book, but I've heard of a few who read the books and thought they were decent. As a psi (not a psi-vamp) I was particularly taken with her portrayal of psis in the Di Tregarde books--in spite of the exaggeration necessary to make a good creepy story, she wasn't all that far off. But does she really think that I'm psychic because I read her books? Does she really think people become Wiccan just because of Di Tregarde? Even the Guardians were around before she used the term--all people mean by that is that they are those who feel a "calling" to guard--a place, people, etc. Perhaps there are a few people out there--a very few--who don't have a good grasp on the line between reality and fantasy, and who will fall into a book that way. But the vast majority of what she's been complaining about are people who were ALREADY THERE, and just came out of the woodwork to comment on how much or how unlike her work was to their experiences. Now, she had to do a lot of research to depict some of the things she's depicted with such accuracy. Why is she surprised when people claim she hit close to the mark? Is it that she really thought that every bit of it was fiction? Reality is a lot stranger. --Winged Wolf "Pardon me while I burst into flames, I've had enough of the world and its peoples' mindless games So pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame.
