With the sun sparkling off silver gold and platinum twines that compose the ring, she looks around for Rhianna Rhianna, I pass this ring on to you (hopefully you haven't had it yet :-) because you came to the realization that we are all friends on this list, even if we don't always agree. In one week, please pass it on to someone who is being very friendly to people, or someone who is new to the list, or someone who is a lurker, but posts occasionally - someone also exemplifies being a friend to others on the list. ** obmisty - We've talked about Moms - what about fathers? Kero's father isn't a sympathetic character, Van's father - well, in time either he (and/or our perspective of him through Van) gets better...other examples, ideas? I think the one that comes to mind is from a short story about Tarma and Kethry...(Trying to remember the name of the guy) -- a follower of the wheel who had to care for his children. He seemed like a sympathetic character. Also Herald Rubrik was not a poor father... just one that was preoccupied. However, as to father figures, Herald Jadus is one of the best that I saw in the books with how he cared for and protected Talia. I just reread the Owls series and the Oath books in succession but since Owls is new here's a spoiler space. Mostly this is a question about magic. In the Oath's series Kethry is a Journeyman/Master mage for most of the books and she cannot tap into the nodes and lines of power until she is an Adept. In the Owls books Darien, the Eclipse Shaman of the Wolverine tribe and apparently most Master class mages can draw on the lines. Is this just the difference in teaching, Kethry being White Winds instead of Tayledras? or has Misty just changed the way magic runs after the Storms? It doesn't make sense that Kethry wouldn't have been able to see or use the lines before this because the way Darien accesses them is through mage sight and Kethry definitely had that. Any thoughts? On the question of Fathers Betha'lis posed, Probably the best example of good fathers I can think of are Jadrek although mentioned only in passing was definitely a sympathetic and very good father. More very good father are Pol and Satiran from Brightly Burning. Pol and Elenor have a wonderful relationship throughout the whole book and Satiran and Kalira while at odds over Lan a couple of times are very caring and loving toward each other. Treyvan is a very protective father to the gryphlets. Skan is shown as an excellent, if slightly overprotective and overbearing father. Amberdrake is the same, he and Blade got along well after they realized and accepted each others differences and similarities. Starfall is presented as a caring and loving parent to Firesong. Karal's father though only mentioned in passing loved him. Andesha's father on the other hand was shown to be way too overbearing practically forcing Andesha to run away. However I find Mercedes writing intriguing enough that it doesnt matter to me if its spoiled. So just in case including space. My appologies ahead of time if I didnt do this quite right. <>Mostly this is a question about magic.
