He just went about it in the wrong way. I believe in his own way he was worried about Van's future. I would,if nobody minds, like to point out some facts: All the Ashkevrons had already been tested by Savil and had been found to have no magic, although Vanyel did show potential. Forst Reach was considered to be a backwater holding and I think Whiten believed that being lord of the manor was the best chance of success for Vanyel, who took after his mother, being slight of build and maybe in Whiten's eyes not fit for much else. He didn't realize the potential rewards becoming a bard could have afforded Vanyel, notice his surprise when Vanyel told him what being a bard could do to improve Medren's lot in life, and obviously went too far in trying to deal with his eldest son. I think that Whiten tried to be the best father he knew how. The question about magic may be explained by the two different types of magic used. the magic that Vanyel,Kethry,Elspeth and all the other masters and adepts used involved actively looking for sources of magic such as ley lines and nodes. The other type shamanic magic, practiced by the wolverine shaman and Tre'valen for the Starry-Eyed in The Mage Wind series involved asking the particular god or goddess for divine aid. The shaman therefore wasn't consciously looking for leylines or node.I am,I;m afraid,at times long winded, and for that I apologize. Zhai'helleva P.S. Rhianna and 'Fandes were right Vanyel would have made a great father. Message-ID: <20000909173216.18564.qmail-+AT+-web1203.mail.yahoo.com> Heyla List-Sibs! I have an Ob-Misty here... I know in the Velgarth books, Misty talks about there being "no one true way". I don't have those books here with me right now, but I do have "Burning Water", and happened upon the conversation between Diana and Mark Valdez where she was telling him this (pg 183). She calls it "The Tregarde Creed". I'm trying to remember is this is somewhat similar (if not the same thing) to what was written about in the other books... <<"There ain't no such thing as 'one true way', and the way you find is only good for you, not anybody else, because your interpretation of what you see and feel and understand as the truth is never going to be the same as anyone else's.">> ===== ---<---<---<----+AT+- Li'nia Stormdancer -+AT+---->--->--->--- Peon to the Powers That Be, (Hopeful)Goddess of All Things Possessed, & Caretaker of the Arena of Discussion and Dissention __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
