There was the Trillum Books, but those were NOT written by Misty - Black Trillium was writtem by Norton, Bradley and Julian May (who btw is a very good auhour, I have read (I think) all her (yes she is female)books and love them *s*). The Book Barbara is referring to is TIGER Buring Brightly. (I have to admit that like Barabara I like this.) On the subject of collorations - is it just my imagination - but doesn't Misty do a lot of them???? Warrl tells her when he explains her Gift that she can also use it to speak mind-to-mind with anyone else who has the Gift of Mindhearing, so presumably not all mindspeakers can make themselves heard by a mind that isn't similarly Gifted. However, I *think* I recall one or two instances in which someone mindspoke a person or people who weren't mindgifted, which means it's probably more a matter of power than of lifebonding and such--though that probably helps too. <> This we know a bit more about. Sayvil, Kero's Companion, can mindspeak anyone she chooses, and it's implied that some if not all Companions can do the same, merely choose not to. Yfandes makes some oblique comments to that effect when she mindspeaks Stefen, if I recall, as well as Kero's remark about how Sayvil "won't pretend like the rest of 'em." So this probably has nothing to do with bonds between Heralds and others, and more to do with how determined the Companions are to keep up the pretense. <> Sword of Ice is a decent read... it runs the gamut from the excellent to the mediocre to the downright bizarre, but there are enough really good stories in it to justify buying it. Oathbound is a trifle episodic (it consists less of a single plot than of a series of adventures, some of which turn up again in Oathblood as short stories), but well-written. Oathbreakers is good as well, though Kethry comes across as a trifle too good to be true in that one. And Oathblood provides some great glimpses at Keth and Jadrek's children and whatever became of the Shin'a'in Stud That Wasn't up in Forst Reach, plus other spiffy stories. All of them are worth getting. <> I admit that I didn't much care for If I Pay Thee Not In Gold, though Misty's fine hand showed through enough in the character interaction to hold me through to the end. Piers Anthony runs hot and cold for me, and as soon as the characters set out on their journey, things went off the deep end. I'm not without sympathy since I do it myself in attempts to add complexity or danger to my plots, but... And the name of the collaboration between Misty, Andre Norton, and MZB was Tiger Burning Bright, which definitely *is* a very good collaboration. It's called The Sword of Knowledge, and it's by C.J. Cherryh, Mercedes Lackey, Leslie Fish, and Nancy Someone-or-other (Sorry, forgot her last name). Anyway, has anyone else heard of it? Talia, for all her being Chosen by Rolan, could not speak with him. I think Keren and Teren were just very closely linked being twins, and the Companions were able to work through that link very well. It surely has something to do with the strength of the sender and the receiver. As for Vanyel being able to "catch" strong unshielded thoughts around him, well, he had a rather exceptional set of Gifts. It's been so strongly taught as unethical, noone has really forcefully projected into another's thoughts (I know, Talia and the father/rapist, but that's Empathy, and this is about Mindspeech! lol) Also, I recall Kerowyn surprising the heck out of Eldan's Companion in BTS... I believe that most Companions choose not to speak with others except in extreme cases. There are, of course, exceptions. Those are the extremely strong-willed and vocal Companions, and we know who they are... But, this is all IMOHO... I've ordered it from Amazon but it hasn't come thru yet. can i have some opinions without spoilers. A little while back some people started talking about Lynn Flewelling so I went out and got the first book... Luck in the Shadows was REALLY good... I've since bought the second and third books, read the second one, and am almost done with the third... the second, Stalking Darkness was INCREADIBLE! I couldn't put it down... so the third one(Traitor's Moon) is pretty amazing too... I highly recommend reading the series. Lynn Flewelling is still a fairly new author, but from her writing I'd guess she's going to be really big someday. For anyone who hasn't read any of her books yet, please do! You won't regret it! I loved the idea of a women-dominated society. I really felt for Serena (it's been awhile, I think that's the main protagonist's name) Ware both entranced and repelled me. I thought it was a good story. And I didn't see any problems with writing styles not meshing. Yet, everyone who I know who reads Misty seems to dismiss it. Eh well, it all comes down to opinion. I happen to think that Tolkien's works aren't that good, but his Rings series is considered classic. Go figure. I guess I'm just in the minority in this one! ~Reanna --- MDennis460-+AT+-aol.com wrote: > i am saying my opinion on "if i pay thee not in > gold"... and how i feel about your postive > experience with it. > > i'm happy that you enjoyed that book, if i pay thee > not in gold, i found it horribly hard to get through > and could really tell where misty's and anthony's > writing didn't mesh tegether. it was rewritten at > least twice to my knowledge. if i had to pick one > book of misty's i found below standards, i would > pick that one! too much verbege and not enough good > plot! i don't think that misty's and piers > anthony's writing styles go along together at all. > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
