I respect your opinion of the book...but honestly, this happens to be one of my favorite books, for Piers and Misty are my two favorite authors. the book was a bit complicated, and had the depth of Misty's work and some of Piers humor and smoothness. I personally would recommend it. Message-ID: <75.a30925f.2704cfd4-+AT+-aol.com> it wan't so much the story line though that went on much too long. i never thought there was such a thing as too much plot, but "if i pay thee not in gold" kept goingon and on and on, i started looking for the energizer bunny to make a cameo appearance. everthing else was certainly in there! i thought the writing styles clashed so badly that it was just brealy readable. it was one of the few of misty's books that i didn't buy, just because itwas so excruciating to read. made it through the library's copy and wrote my only noncomplimentary review for a newsletter i used to write for. the story felt like it was in first draft form and needed a really decent ruthless editing job to get it ready for publication. you might want to read some back ground on how it came to be such a colaboration. might want to ask misty on firebird's website and see what she says about this...it migh tmake an interesting post on this list! I, for one, really enjoyed it! I loved the idea of a women-dominated society. I really felt for Serena (it's been awhile, I think that's the main protagonist's name) Ware both entranced and repelled me. I thought it was a good story. And I didn't see any problems with writing styles not meshing. Yet, everyone who I know who reads Misty seems to dismiss it. Eh well, it all comes down to opinion. I happen to think that Tolkien's works aren't that good, but his Rings series is considered classic. Go figure. I guess I'm just in the minority in this one! ~Reanna --- MDennis460-+AT+-aol.com wrote: > i am saying my opinion on "if i pay thee not in > gold"... and how i feel about your postive > experience with it. > > i'm happy that you enjoyed that book, if i pay thee > not in gold, i found it horribly hard to get through > and could really tell where misty's and anthony's > writing didn't mesh tegether. it was rewritten at > least twice to my knowledge. if i had to pick one > book of misty's i found below standards, i would > pick that one! too much verbege and not enough good > plot! i don't think that misty's and piers > anthony's writing styles go along together at all. > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Message-ID: <000001c0298a$20e55520$dd21af95-+AT+-basil.lclark.edu> Piers Anthony has a (rather hostile) little paragraph on the whole "If I Pay Thee Not In Gold" thing in a back issue of his newsletter at http://www.hipiers.com/97may.html . It's about 7 paragraphs in. The paragraph starts with "But my main irritation of the moment is the Audit. This is simplified, as all the details would be tedious...". It would be interesting to hear Lackey's side of it too. I have the book, but haven't ever gotten around to reading it, so I haven't anything to offer on how good or bad it is. On another note, I've been re-reading the Arrows books for about the millionth time, and I have a question. It says that the Monarch's Own's Companion will choose again after the death of their Chosen. But what about a long imprisonment or other incapacitation of one or the other? What if, frex, Ancar had been more of a mind to lock Talia up for decades and it hadn't been possible to pull off the rescue? Would Rolan had Chosen again if she lived but was inaccessible? What if he did and she got out later? Obviously, there isn't any texed on any of that, but I'd be interested in hearing speculation. May squirrels never take a liking to your teeth, L.J. I don't remember much of it I read it quite a long time ago. I think I'll run to the library and check it out to re-read. It is one of the few Misty books I don't own, for lack of not being able to find it in local stores. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Reanna Laury" To: Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2000 5:26 AM Subject: Re: If I Pay Thee Not In Gold... > Eh well, it all comes down to opinion.
