Sara, you aren't allowed to call yourself a Herald Mage on list if you don't have a registered persona with the Queen's Own club. someone on the list will be able to give you a web-addy or you can search for Mercedes Lackey and you'll get to the site. There is a LOAD of stuff to do to become a Herald Mage, even at journeyman rank. Misty herself set these guidelines and we have been asked to abide by them. I think (feel free to correct me) that Misty herself has fulfilled all the qualifications to become an Adept Herald Mage. You can call yourself Rini or whatever (My name isn't really Moonstalker!!) but not a Herald Mage (until you have aquired the rank). I apologise if you *are* a Herald Mage but i think that you said somewhere that you were 14? or am i wrong? I'm afraid that it would take a whole lot of effort to become a Herald Mage... I'm 15 and am almost complete in my application to become a "Herald", it has taken hours of work... That wasn't being mean or anything (sorry if you think it has) but id hate for someone on list to get into any trouble over a name and title. > Several of my friends have read the books. I know how you feel on the friends thing. i moved to CA from England (just for my 8th grade year - long story involving parental jobs) and sat on my own for the first lesson wondering why i even bothered. Then i met Jen (Brynn) and she introduced me to all her friends and to Misty's books! then I introduced her to Terry Pratchett's series. I've been back in England over a year now and she came on her own to stay with me over the summer. friends are wonderful things!! Message-ID: Back, I guess it was eight or nine years ago now, there used to be an out of control Mercedes Lackey Bulletin Board on the Prodigy Network (back before nearly anyone knew what the WWW and the internet even was). It was also back before Misty and her lawyers decided that fan-fic was going to be unallowed. There were 40 or 50 of us at any one time writing/roleplaying over the space of about two years, and we produced several thousand pages of storyline. I found a pile of printouts under my bed back at my parents house and I was suprised to see how good the quality of the storywriting really was. Anyway, we eventually got an incredibly rude cease and desist letter from the lawyers at DAW, at which point the whole group moved underground. It was so much harder to maintain that way and nearly impossible to gain new members, that it simply collapsed. Now, I'm just wondering, by any chance is there anyone from that old group on this list? I know it was a really long time ago... Is this the E-groups Queen's Own, or another? I sort of belong to the e-groups club, i.e. I get the posts. It won't let me post. I've written some, but the mail service sends back all my posts. I know that you can post on the e-groups site but those never show up either. But I've never heard a thing about guidelines and long applications, just writing. Clear this up? I didn't know that I was breaking any rules. The misty book cover I hate the most is the one the sci fi book club did for Bedlam's Bard...its truely hideous. Second to that is the cover for The Chrome Circle...is it me or is Baen's artwork always slightly on the cheesy side? On the other hand the Jody Lee cover for the White Gryphon is one of my favorites...even though Skan is shown as having a lion's tale instead of a birds. However, there was still another purpose for them, so they stuck around through the end of the Mage Storms Trilogy. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read them yet, but if you have read them, you know what I'm talking about! Ob-Misty: Has a full story ever been written about Dick White, SKitty, and SCat? Message-ID: <> <> Actually (donning my fanatical equestrienne hat) with regards to the coloring of Jody Lee's Companions: a truly white horse is, as stated above, an albino, meaning that its skin is pink, all of its coat, mane, and tail are white, its hooves are pinkish, and its eyes are blue or pink. Because a white horse's skin is pink, the horse often appears to have a pinkish cast to its coloring, especially during the summer when its coat is short and fine. A horse with a white coat and black skin is grey, and these horses often look slightly bluish in their summer coats or when wet. Both colors of horse can and do take on hints of the colors in their surroundings if the light is strong, particularly at sunrise and sunset when the light will tint them slightly yellow, orange, reddish, pinkish, or even purplish. Now, granted, it usually isn't to quite the extent that Jody Lee's artwork displays, but I personally don't think her work looks all that bad. At least she's done a considerably better job of depicting equine conformation than Larry Dixon. The only time I was really distressed by the colors she used was the cover of one of the Arrows books, on which Rolan has a bluish coat and yellowish mane and tail. This is realistic--the manes and tails of white and grey horses often turn yellowed as they get dirty, even if the coat is still clean enough to be bluish--but it's not pretty. I will note, in response to the comment that Jody Lee must never have seen an albino horse and that Misty describes them near-perfectly in her Companions, that I've only ever seen one truly white horse that was at all attractive. The pinkish cast from their skin, and the effect the coloring has on their faces, tends to make them look unappealing, and I've never seen one that had that silvered look that the greys get. Nor have I ever seen one with silver hooves... only pink. Though granted I have not seen a whole lot of albino horses.
