I don't think Kerowyn would be Kellan because the names are too different for Misty's obvious approach to naming Companions when they are reincarnated heralds (e.g. Savil vs Sayvil, Tantras vs Tantris) However, it does seem like Companions might be in the Havens waiting for their chosen. That seems to be the case of Kris when he is dying and seems to see Tantris there. I cannot think of any other evidence either for or against..... I hope others can contribute to the question tho, as I find it interesting :-) Hmmm...another thought while we are at it....how would that be explained where the MO Companion is concerned? As a multiple bond? Peace, Ele High Priestess of Karma, Councilor of Mist P.S. When Elspeth, Darkwind, and Company go to Sorrows, though Vanyel is very clearly defined and described, Stef is vaguer, and 'couldn't seem to make up his mind whether he wanted to have red hair or blond'--ie, looks a little like Stef did and a little like Tylendel. He also had a good bit of wisdom to impart to Skif and Nyara, which sort of implies that he remembers the successes and the screw-ups from both incarnations. <> Personally I think that Gala would have wanted to get on with life--or afterlife, as the case may be--and not get tied into a cycle because of what went bad that one time around. One assumes that this is in fact what she did, since she did not appear in tandem with Stefen. I agree that Heralds and their Companions probably don't get stuck with one another forever and ever, world without end, amen. I think the Companion's Choice has a lot more to do with how a particular Herald will be needed, and what that Herald will need from his/her partner, than preordained, eternal shackles of personality. <> I don't know... I think that would be awfully... convenient. People die, Companions die, life goes on, it's tragic. Even in fictional worlds. I'd actually kind of like to see a 'control situation', in which a Companion is killed and the Herald left alive. I suspect it might wind up a little bit like the predicament of Lytol in the Pern books. Maybe. <> Rant the first: the various lists that have been compiled, such as the Reincarnations list, the Herald-Companion list, and the Love/Lifebond list, are based on interpretation, which is fickle and not to be trusted. Therefore they're not exactly the sort of thing you want to go to when you're not certain about a classification, unless it's to see how other people interpreted it. (I have a longstanding complaint against these lists, for the reson below.) Rant the second: there's no need to tie every little thread neatly together. Everything's not connected, not everyone who claims to be 'soul mates' with someone is lifebonded, and who'd want to be reincarnated into the same circle of friends and family every bloody time? :) More seriously--I doubt they're lifebonded. 'Soul mates' is a term that gets tossed around with reckless abandon. And Tre'valen and Dawnfire are sort of an unusual case, since Tre'valen didn't even meet her until she was 'dead'. We've got quite enough lifebonds floating around as it is, without trying to lifebond, oh, Kero and Eldan, or Elspeth and Darkwind, or Tre'valen and Dawnfire. More on Vanyel's story as told in AotQ: <> This one's fairly easy to explain. Remeber, at the time of AotQ, no one in Valdemar could even think about magic, much less talk and theorize about it. And there weren't even any Herald-Mages around after Van's death to explain things. So how do you explain Final Strike? You don't. You say he got torn to pieces to explain why they never had a body, and thus never had a big spiffy tomb for him even though he was such a hero. Though come to think of it, we know bugger-all about what the Valdemarans do for their dead, aside from the scene in MPawn in which Tylendel's body was displayed in the chapel. Which is really kind of odd, considering the frequency with which Heralds seem to die. <<2/ Talia's healer friend Devan talked about his involment in hunting gryphons.>> Tarma also mentions 'griffons' when she's griping at Kethry for wanting to go into the Pelagirs. One assumes that Misty didn't get the idea to write about gryphons as sentient and sapient characters-in-their-own-right until later on. In MY opionion these bonds do not continue from life to life - I think in 1 book, a companion said something like they feel an itch to go and find a Herald - and that there are "false alarms" - who may or may not be Heralds to be. Like if/when Vanyel is reborn, he would probably Choose Yfandes. Also, when Talia is reborn (since she can't be reborn of MOH Companion) she may be reborn as the next MOH if Rolan is still the MOH companion. However if the companion and the chosen had a bad bond, the one reborn as a companion would probably not choose the same Chosen. Examples would be Gala and Lendel/Steff (if Gala actually ever chose to be reborn). Another would be in Magic Pawn the Companion/Chosen pair where the Chosen beat the Companion (sorry I can't remeber names). Kinda like how if you were reborn with all your memories, and you knew who the rebirth of your enemy was, you probably wouldn't chose to become friends with them. Just my thoughts.
