I'm guessing that he/she went off and quietly died, or disappeared, or whatever it is that Companions do when their Herald dies peacefully... We still don't know that, and I like that mystery! Ob-Misty: Well, kinda-sorta... I want to find out if I'm completely strange or not. Has anyone else out there named something they have had after a Misty character? I mean, I name my vehicles (makes it more personal when I'm pissed at it, I guess) and my current vehicle is named "FX". Message-ID: Don't worry about naming your car, My old car was Named Gumpy, becuase it was really slow and sluggish(and ugly) I didn't name it after anything Misty, But my friends and i all came up with personas and called eachother by those names, i was "Dirk" i had another friend who called herself "Talia" and every morning we would run up to eachother shouting"LIFEBOND" and everyone would look at us wierd. And you though you were weird for nameing your car. HA! I was also reading BTS again and it said something right after Kerowyns ride that The song was made after the ride, something along the lines of -there is even talk of a song- , But I think that i remeber reading somewhere that the song came out before the ride and that was one of the things that was so wierd about it. Am I really out there? > When I was younger I had a large white short-haired cat, with weird blue-green eyes. So she went by alternately Yfandes or Spot. As in "Out, out, damn spot" due to her habit of lieing on my large collection of black clothes (I was the first goth in my town. But I got better). I'm afraid Spot stuck better that Yfandes, as I also came from a family of ST:TNG fans, and as everyone knows Data's cat was named Spot. :P So I was a dork as a kid. ;) Eilis ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2000 13:40:06 EST From: "Lisa T" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Kerowyn's Ride Message-ID: Becca said >I was also reading BTS again and it said something right after Kerowyns >ride that The song was made after the ride, something along the lines of >-there is even talk of a song- , But I think that i remeber reading >somewhere that the song came out before the ride and that was one of the >things that was so wierd about it. =========== Your definition on if the song came out before Kero, depends on if u are in 'real' time or 'misty' time. The song "Kerowyn's Ride" is one of the songs in the back of Arrows Fall, with the note "This is a fairly common song in Valdemar, although it orginated several lands to the south" So I guess what happen, like the song 'Threes' (which is also in Arrows Fall) is that Misty wrote the song then the book. So in real life it came out first, thought it would have come out later in 'misty' time. Also in this confusion is the thought by Elspeth in Winds of Fate "..for even *after* the arrival of the real Kerowyn, Master Bards were still writing Essays that claimed it was an allegorical peice wherein the Goddess-as-Crone passed her power to the Goddess-as-Maiden at Spring Solstice. She found several other papers stating that it described an actual event that had taken place hundreds of years ago, as evidenced by this or that style." This could mean that the people of Valdermar could belive, and therefore act, as if the song was much older than it really was. The timeline ins plausable for this to happen, as Kero was quite young when the Ride happened, and it took some time for here to get to Valdemar *s* Wind to thy wings Lisa T _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. AotQ, p. 262. "Jadus' passing had been quite peaceful, he [a Healer] told her; Jadus had no inkling of it, simply hadn't awakened. His Companion was also gone -- probably simultaneously." It's also made clear earlier that Jadus' Companion is old ("spending her days watching the young foals," I think), so she wouldn't be in a position to Choose again. So they seem to just disappear, and no one seems to know where, which I like. It also answers another question I had about how one would go about burying such a large creature. I was thinking about this last weekend when I visited Gettysburg, site of a major battle of the American Civil War. The guide said that the night after the battle was horrific: over 20,000 dead soldiers, which both sides had made a feeble attempt to bury, and about 500 dead horses, which were impossible to bury, so they just burned them where they lay. I also think that in most cases there isn't a single perfect match, as there would be if there was a bond that continued from paring to pairing. I remember Elspeth commenting in Winds of Fate that the Companions were fighting over who would get to Choose the twins when they got old enough to be Chosen. If the bond continued from life to life, there wouldn't be any discussion about it.
