Love Fire Rose, couldn't even part finish Black Swan. What's everyone's opinion on Misty's fairy tale retellings? I'll admit part of the reason I loved Fire Rose is that there's the best description of a proper cup of tea that I've read and it sets a really clear picture of the household. Speaking of fairy tales I'd recommend the Robin McKinley versions of Beauty and the Beast (Beauty and the newish one Rose Daughter), Donkeyskin (Deerskin) and Sleeping Beauty (Spindles End). A while back someone mentioned Tanya Huff did some, what are they like. Thoughts folks? ---------------------- Liz Hoffman I passed my viva yesterday, hallelujah. I thought a couple characters, especially Rose, fit into the smart, speak-her-mind woman stereotype much too well. But then, it is a fairy tale. They tend to create stereotypes. Beautiful princess, courageous knight, etc. A bit of fluff: Rosalind Hawkins went down on my Bio test as the woman who helped discover the structure of DNA. I was reading the book at the time, and I kept confusing her with Rosalind Franklin. :) Sympathy to all being flooded out in 'sunny England'. Our current, yearly Mississippi monsoon doesn't compare, but it is quite wet here also. Seems all of her body hurt today...* :You're getting soft: *She glares over at the large black pile of fur. Two luminous silver eyes look back at her from among the darkness* :Shut up, Styx. You're a cat. What do you know about falling and not being able to land on your feet?: *Styx yawns and ignores his mindmate's question* ====================================================== Ok... enough fluff! I'm so happy that I was able to visit a place from Misty's books! In the SERRAted Edge novel "Born To Run", Misty has Tannim and Sam Kelly go to Kevin Barry's Pub on River Street in Savannah, Georgia. Well, I finally got to go there, and I can see why she has Tannim like it so much! I love Irish pubs overall; the atmosphere tends to be better there. But, it was so nice to be able to actually see something that was written about, instead of trying to just visualize it! Just thought I'd share that with you all! ===== ---<---<---<----+AT+- Li'nia Stormdancer -+AT+---->--->--->--- Peon to the Powers That Be, Goddess of All Things Possessed, & Caretaker of the Arena of Discussion and Dissention __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I would look for the passage myself, but my books are still two hours away. Hope that helps. Good luck (and my sympathies) to everyone taking midterms. (Damned Gov take-home exam. . . .)
