The heroine is Honoria, one of the cooler princesses from The Black Swan. <> Personally, I thought Firebird was the best of the lot--the writing style Misty uses in it hearkens back to earlier, better work like Arrows, and the plot stays tight and believable throughout, which Black Swan doesn't do. I also liked Ilya, the hero, quite a bit. <> I find that reading about things in fantasy novels makes me all the more interested in learning about them IRL... I'm sure my history professor this semester has wondered why I come near to nodding off for some of his lectures and perk up to listen avidly to others--sometimes mid-class. :) <> Tal Rufen and Artis :) <> Actually, I found that particular bit of the plot to be very realistic. In point of fact, it happens ot me all the time--which is probably how I recognized it. They didn't fall in love; each of them saw something in the other and built a mild infatuation off it. Love is Something Different... it doesn't evaporate in the light of reason, which is precisely what their infatuation did at the end of the book. And I confess that, though I'd have liked for Tal to get the girl (I like Tal quite a bit), I rather enjoyed the fact that Misty steered away from the stock sort of ending where the villain is defeated Once And For All and the heroes find True Love with one another, happy happy joy joy. It's a little too easy to work a nice cozy romance into the plotline--or at least it is for me.
