Instead of stupid, catchy songs sticking in my head and driving me mad, I get really odd, picky questions sticking in my mind and bothering me. So I thought I'd just throw this one out: Do you remember the scene in "Arrows of the Queen" where Skif is caught by Lord Orthallen trying to check the immigration records? Orthallen brings him to the Queen that night in an effort to get him expelled from the Collegium or remanded to stable-cleaning duties with the Guard. When Talia bursts in, Elcarth, Kyril, Selanay, and Keren are all there. Elcarth makes sense, since he's the Dean and would be called in on anything really important having to do with a student. Kyril is there, which again makes sense that as the Senechal's Herald, he might be called in for something important like expelling a Trainee, or he might have been in the Queen's office late at night anyway on other business. But what's Keren doing there? Isn't she just the riding instructor? Not that that's not an important job, but I don't recall seeing anything that would imply that she was also something else, like the equivalent of an RA (Resident Assistant, which may only be a US thing: it's a resident tutor or senior student advisor). If anyone was going to be called in as Skif's advisor, I would have thought it would be Teren, not Keren, since Teren is a full-time general teacher, and assinged to the Collegium specifically because he's very good at working with the students in general (and he's male, so perhaps a bit more of an appropriate advisor for Skif). And I didn't get the sense that Keren would just be hanging out with Kyril or Elcarth or the Queen late at night and so come along with them when they were summoned about Skif, since the book makes the point that she doesn't have many close friends. Anyway, it just struck me as vaguely odd that she would have been present at that particular scene. Like I said, these are the vague niggling details that reoccur in the foggy maze of my mind, and I'm curious if it struck anyone else as odd, or if anyone else has a different take on Keren.
