I am not sur that I would need a book, but at least a mention in one of the later ones would be good. If it wasn't mentioned though, I doubt that it is important. They don't seem to worried about an attack from the Empire so my guess is that they are simply no longer an issue. I dunno. Aren't them the people who relied so much on magic they used it to hold up building and deliver food? I figure there's probably rioting in the streets and stuff while they're learning how to live like 'normal' people again. > I dunno, I'd kinda like to see an Eastern Empire book.. ^_^ I have to agree... but I'd rather see her fill in those large gaps in history. An Empire book that focuses on Baron Valdemar would be super cool. Get to hear his side of the story. I look on being hooked up with Dirk as an ongoing joy, same as Kris being dead is an ongoing sorrow. So perhaps nothing else will make her happier than being with Dirk, but it is an ongoing happiness that permeates her whole life. >Also, not to be nit-picky, or anything, but Kris was her best friend too, >not just Dirks. that is why it was such a huge sorrow. Well, that is all >I ave to say for now. Do you really think so? I mean, yes, Talia and Kris were very close, and they spent a pretty tough year together becoming that close. But she's quite close to a few others as well, her "big brother" Skif especially. And much of "Arrow's Flight" is spent pointing out that she is not in love with Kris: she likes him a lot, knows that he's a very caring person, but also thinks he's a bit of a peacock, that he's awfully arrogant, and that he seems to take for granted the way things have a tendency to fall in his lap. The first time she sees Dirk, she thinks what a kind person he is, and the first time she talks to Skif, she's almost immediately at ease. The first time she meets Kris, in the library, she's a bit annoyed by him, although she also recognizes that he's nice enough to take some teasing. Which I think is all very refreshing for Kris, as not even Dirk really talks to him the way Talia does: even Dirk thinks that Talia would naturally fall in love with Kris over him, whereas Talia (and Alberich) are the only ones who think that idea is silly. I know that at the end of "Arrow's Fall" Talia tells Dirk that it was Kris's dearest wish to have two of his closest friends find love with each other. Leaving aside the fact that best friend-ship is not necessarily reciprocal, she's also misquoting him: in Arrow's Flight, what he says is that he finds her perfectly lovely and loveable [she's all worried that Dirk doesn't love her], that he hopes both she and Dirk find love, and that it would satisfy one of his dearest wishes to see them find love together. I may be off base here, and I'd be curious whether other people think Kris was Talia's best friend as well as Dirk's. I would say rather that Talia has a small number of very close friends, Skif and Keren also included, and that Kris is certainly one of them, but that he and Talia are nowhere near as close as he is to Dirk, who calls his friendship with Kris one of the most precious things of his life. I think that Talia and Kris came to know each other fairly well during her internship with him, but I don't think I ever thought of them as being "best friends". During the time leading up to their departing Haven, Talia was not impressed with Kris, and found him to be a person a bit stuck on himself. He tended to be condescending to people, and seemed to assume that people would automatically like him. He certainly seemed to think that Talia would fall in love with him! They did become close during the internship, but they still did not truly trust one another. However, Talia completely trusted people like Keren, Sherrill, and Skif. The lifebond had something to say in her impressions of Dirk, but even as a reader I liked Dirk a heck of a lot better than Kris! I think them going together on that final journey helped bring them closer together, but I think it really helped them understand one another better. Talia came to understand a bit of Kris' attitude and the reasons behind it, and Kris finally had more confidence in Talia and her abilities. I just really don't think they were "best friends"... She had a few "really close friend". He definatly was one of those. They did exchange friendship rings after all, so they aren't really "just good buddies" either. Of course they had their problems with eachother, every friendship is like that. They were just more obvious with this one. Anyways, my point is that Her greatest sorrow IS losing Kris. on a related note, does that mean that she is going to die before Dirk. Becuase then her greatest sorrow would be losing Dirk. I had thought that Talia did start to trust and care for Kris, esp, once they were trapped in the forest of sorrows. But, it has been a while since I read Talia's story, perhaps I just changed events in my head to the way that I wanted them. On the subject of best friends, I never thought of Talia and Kris as best friends. Good friends yes, especially after the whole Forest of Sorrows incident, and he did give her a friendwhip ring like the one he gave Dirk, but I don't think there was ever a doubt that his best friends was Dirk, not Talia. Besides, I don't think she ever COMPLETELY trusted him, after the whole mess with him believing his uncle about Talia using her gift to manipulate people (sorry, don't have textev...my books are on the other side of the country).
