Then again I have just gotten married and moved to England from the states :) On book recommendations, I did enjoy the Bardic series starting with the Lark and the Wren...the following books were good as well but the first one was very good. They're not quite at the same level as the majority of the Velgarth books but they are good fun reads. Basically I've found that just about any Misty book is good...barring for me at least The Black Swan, its the only Misty book I've only read once. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Eric/Beth/Kory books and Di Tregarde boks as well. If you are looking to branch out into different authors Tanya Huff is excellent and very similar to Misty in style, actually she is a bit of a protege of Misy's. Some of her books are The Fire's Stone, Summon the Keeper, and the Blood Series. Another excellent author is Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner series that starts with Luck in the Shadows. On a different subject, I think everyone here knows that Misty has put aside the Skif and Alberich books to work on the ones following a herald trainee through the Collegium....what I want to know is just how is this going to be all that different from the first two books in the arrows series? Didn't we basically follow Talia through schooling? or is it that Misty is going to be looking at a basic herald not one being trained to be queen's own? Oh and Darkling I agree that Fire Rose is one of Misty's better non Velgarth books and I can't wait for the next of the fairy tale, The Serpent's Shadow books to come out in March. From what i read on amazon.com it sounds like its set up similarly to Fire Rose at least as far as it is set in the Victorian era. I'm new to this list, well relatively new and I don't think I've posted anything yet, so I thought I might introduce myself. My name's Teresa, I currently live in Manchester studying linguistics and I'm enjoying it a lot!! (which is good since I'm taking a degree in it) :) Anyway, what made me delurk is the mention of Lynn Flewelling and Misty's new series. Flewelling's books are really extremely good and I really recommend them to everyone, pick up a copy!! :) Well, enough rambling about that over to Misty. Personally I would really like to read another series with heralds who go through schooling 'cause there's a lot you don't know about herald trainees even though the ones about Talia shed some light on it... does anyone know when they're coming out? Titles? >Then again I have just gotten >married and moved to England from the states :) Hey, congrats Amy. How do you find England? Wet? *grin* (it's been pouring all day here!) well, got to go, cheers, Teresa _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Feb 2001 14:06:09 EST From: Ilaria1431-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Misty books and other suggestions Message-ID: <42.10926caf.27b83ca1-+AT+-aol.com> --part1_42.10926caf.27b83ca1_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 2/11/01 3:42:13 AM Eastern Standard Time, thebrattycat-+AT+-yahoo.com writes: > On a different subject, I think everyone here knows > that Misty has put aside the Skif and Alberich books > to work on the ones following a herald trainee through > the Collegium.... I did not know this! When was this announced and where? Personally, I like this, especially given her recent book on Lavan Firestorm. It was good, but there was very little detail given on him and his Companion, and I'd hate to see that done to Skif and Alberich. He isn't good in Eanglish, so sometimes he will be using translator. So I love Mercedes Lackey books. To all you newbies out there, welcome to the MLML (Mercedes Lackey Member List)!! Yes, "Misty" is the nickname for Mercedes Lackey. It's not one we've made up for her; she's been called that for a while. The List is also called the "Hall of Mists", and when things get heated up, we tend to move into the "Arena of Discussion and Dissention"... If y'all need clarification on other terms (flaming, the sheep-thing, and titles and such) you can visit the "NewbieFest"...
