SPOILER SPACE * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The story involves two Heralds, Judaia and Martin. Judaia is sent on her internship with Martin and realizes they're lifebonded. Martin knows this also, but tries to avoid talking about it to Judaia. When she finally confronts him, he tells her that he has made a promise to his lover back at Haven, that she would be "[his] one and only, that [he] would never sleep with another." His lover (Lyssa) made a similar promise, but is not keeping it. Both Judaia and Martin know it, but Martin says that Lyssa is not a Herald so she cannot be expected to keep her vow. When Judaia yells at him and says it's not fair, or right, Martin replies that a Herald's honor always comes first; "Honor always over right." Judaia tells her Companion that is "honor withour justice." Later, when the women are fighting over the babies, Judaia gives one baby to the wrong mother. It's real mother had tried to trade it for another, so Judaia believed that she had given up her right to motherhood. When Marin questions her about it, she answers "Sometime's what's right is more important than the truth or any vow. Sometimes justice over honor." They don't become lovers in the story, but they no longer avoid each other either.
