What about when Dirk gets played with by that high born chick? You know, he wants her, she wants Kris, Kris doesn't want any part of it? That seemed pretty realistic. Especially Dirk's reaction to it. Sorry about the one liner! Jessie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! I meant the kind of relationship where two people date for a couple of years, possibly even get married, and then something happens and they break up or get divorced. In thinking about it, Elspeth and Skif's "relationship" is pretty close to what I mean, before they find their more permanent significant others: a relationship between two decent people where Skif is interested and Elspeth is not. One other question, to keep this from being a one-line "yes, I kind of agree" message (and yes, I do save up odd questions to tack onto the ends of one-liners): What is Kerowyn's native language? Is it a dialect of Valdemar (or vice versa: is Valdemar a dialect of Jkatha?) I ask because, although Rethwellan and Valdemar are different languages (Kerowyn notes that Talia speaks well at the Rethwellan court, but with a stiffness that betrayed her non-fluency; Elspeth talks about writing to her Uncle Faram to practice her Rethwellan), both Kerowyn and Daren appear to speak Valdemar fluently -- much better than Alberich, for instance. And, while Daren might have learned Valdemar as a useful language for a prince to learn, Kerowyn has no particular reason to learn it, given that she had no reason to ever go to Valdemar (okay, Eldan, eventually, but she and Eldan converse fluently from the beginning). If Jkatha and Valdemar speak the same language, though, then it all makes sense, because Daren would also have to speak it at Tarma and Kethry's school, and they would both be pretty fluent. Okay, finally -- if this is all answered in Winds or Storms, just say so, and I'll find out eventually. Right now I'm reading Magic's Pawn/Promise/Price for the first time, so Winds and Storms will have to come later.
