I started reading Misty when I was in seventh grade--I stopped at the Library really quickly for books, and happened to grab "The Lark and the Wren" amongst other things. I read it all in one night [which isn't all that impressive for me, since I read *very* fast, but anyway...] and was hooked. I love how her world comes to life...and I love how she developed the government enough to have characters having a discussion about *why* they had to pay taxes. Anyway, that was my first of her books. After reading all three [that's all there was then] of the Bardic Voices books, I went on to try and read the Winds series -- because I honestly thought that that's where she started. After being horribly confused, I "left" and read other things for a while, then came to the realisation that the books actually *started* somewhere else. I've been reading them ever since. I've read everything except the Di Tregarde novels and the second two "storms" books, since I had trouble getting into the first one. My fave books are "The Lark and the Wren" and "The Oathbound" -- I want more Tarma and Kethry stories! I also *loved* "Serpent's Shadow"...: ) Anyway, that's all about me, probably more than any of you wanted to know!   I'm 28, and started reading Misty when the Science Fiction Book Club came out with the Vanyel/Last Herald Mage compilation.  It was kind of weird at first, reading about a shaych character, especially when there very few main characters in any books that are gay (at least any I read).  I've got all of the Valdemar series in hardcover now, mainly by going to used book stores (a little slice of heaven for pennies on the dollar), and the Bardic Voices, which I enjoyed, to be honest, only the first book (Lark & Wren).  My wife thinks I'm pretty odd to be soooo excited whenever a new Valdemar book arrives, but I have not had this much fun in a fictional universe since either Tolkien or Pratchett.  There are other authors which float my boat (Jordan, Weis/Hickman, Moorcock) but Misty's prose is special to me.  Okay, back to the lurking shadows for me...

Hey all,

I've been all on the list about six months now and this is my second post (first was a one-liner, oops!!). I'm 19, and from Cape Breton, the most beautiful place on Earth.  For those of you who don't know, it's an island on the east coast of Canada.  I'm not actually there right now :(  Have to wrap up these darn finals first.  I can't quite remember when i started reading Misty, all i know is that i've haven't stopped since.  I think i've may have read the Velgarth books in chronological order, gotta love those gryphons!!!  Just started  the SERRAted edge series, quite enjoyable so far.  Liked the Elvenbane, enjoyed Free Bards.  I read everything i can get my hands on, saved some of the 'recommended authors' posts for further use.  Were Raymond E. Feist and Lynn Flewelling mentioned??  Anyway, must go back to the books, school ones, not the fun ones :(  Which reminds me, for those who enjoy historical fiction, Joan Wolf and Morgan (?) Llyuwellen are fantastic!!!

Chocolate-double-dunked-extra-frosting sheep for all (maybe i should get that snack...hmm)

My name is Sheridan, and I am 28, and currently residing in London, although home is definitely New Zealand :). Shannon, I had friends at the convention that Misty and Larry were at - a friend of mine bought the sketch of Vanyel - the first one he's done in 5 years, and it's going to be the frontispiece for the Valdemar Companion book - I am asking my friend for more details on that book! I think the final cost was $750 (NZ). Someone else bought a promised sketch by Larry (any subject). And Misty auctioned off some bead jewellery and necklaces ... and computer disks copies of her next 2 unpublished novels, Spirits of White Lightning (about Skiff) and The Shadow of the Lion (first in a new trilogy). I asked my friend about The Shadow of the Lion, and it's a three volume fantasy, set in medieval Europe (but she thinks with magic - it's written by Misty and 2 others. The first Misty books I ever read were The Last Herald Mage, and they are my favourites :). I do enjoy the Elven Urban Mage books too. However, I have to say that I found the Owl series hard to get into. I am looking forward to the book that Misty is hopefullly going to write on Albrich though - does anyone know when that is coming out? Wind to thy Wings, tamlin PS My friend managed to get me Misty and Larry's autograph, so I am rapt :) _____________________________________________________________________________ http://movies.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! I am a 20, almost 21 year old female computer science major, who will be transfering to UC Davis in the fall. As for the owl series I think most of the time it did move rather slowly, but I still enjoyed it. It did not follow the troubled youth getting chosen and having a better life format, but rather followed the troubled youth getting adopted by the Ta'Leydras(sp) and having a better life...just kidding. But that does seem to be an underlying theme in most of Misty's books, a troubled youth or youthes, do this, or save that, but I guess the story would not be very interesting if the protagonist did not have any adversity to over come. I don't remember any stories that start out with the character in a great situation and it only gets better as the story progresses, that would be boring any how. As for the knit picking in the stroies, I have also notinced a couple of errors or inconsistencies with some of the stories, but being that it is just a story and one that I enjoy reading I just ignore it and move on. It takes away from the flow of reading to dwell on it. However, I guess in retrospect it is okay, but by the time I am done reading I have already forgotten what the problem was oh well. Okay, wow, that was longer than I thought it would be, sorry for rambling so much, this is what happens when I actually have time to think, ooooh scary...thinking.
