There will never be another di tregarde book for two reasons, number one was that out of all of Misty's books they were the least popular. Misty decided to stop writing them and concentrate on other books like Serpent's Shadow. She does have to finish out her contract with that publisher though and she's been thinking about writing Andre into one of those books. The second reason is that there was a group of VERY disturbed individuals who were threatening Misty and Larry over her use of magic in the books. I won't go into it here but if you want to know more go to www.firebirdarts.com and read Misty's explanation in the Misty Index under the title of the Camel's Back. I don't know of any unpublished Di books...there are the short stories that have been released in one of her anthologies, but as far as I know the three that exist are the entire lot. As far as the Serrated Edge books go from what Misty has said on her Ask Misty page on firebird there are two in the works that should be released in the next year or so... WOO HOO!!! Well, I hadn't heard that she already had written some more books, but there are NOT going to come any more out. Misty has said that in a couple of interviews that was posted at firebirdart's homepage somewhere. The reason for that, was too much trouble with some weirdos who thought it was for real, and wanted Misty to teach them all she knew. As for the goddess of cats - in the Norse mythology the goddess of fertility Freya, had two giants cats. Also as a side node, there are quite a few gods and goddesses on the list, but I frankly don't know if any of them cover cats. Sheep flavoured danish to everyone. There won't be any more Di Tregarde books from Misty. I think there's a letter discussing that at www.firebirdarts.com. Misty received a bunch of threats and other wierd stuff when people started taking those books WAY too seriously, I think... that's IIRC... But anyway, check out that site and read the letters posted there from Misty. There's also one or two explaining why she and Larry don't go to conventions very often... > > I loved the serrated edge series, but I heard that > people had complained about them being to dark. I am a HUGE fan of the SERRAted Edge novels, and have found them to be anything but dark! Yes, Misty deals with some very serious topics in those books, but overall, I found them to be very fun reads. I don't have my copy of Magic's Price with me, but I think Yfandes was ten when she Chose Vanyel and was considered rather old to not have Chosen. As for "when they are young they act like normal horses"... the evidence we have of that is Cymry's foal in Arrow's Fall who keeps trying to eat his garland at the wedding. I'd say this is less normal horse behavior and more the behavior of an infant. <> Well, assuming you could get a Companion foal away from Companion's Field without killing off all the Companions and the entire Heraldic Circle... it would probably be a little bit like kidnapping a human child and giving it to gorillas or chimpanzees to raise, except that a Companion stands a good chance of being a reincarnated human soul and would probably at least partially regain the memories of that past life. You might wind up with a really messed-up Companion, but you wouldn't get a Companion that think's it's a normal horse. <> Actually, despite my feminist tendencies, that didn't bother me so much. Possibly because it made sense in context... so Ilya sleeps around; what is he *supposed* to do, conform to 21st-century dating standards? Those are plenty twisted anyhow. It may not be exactly pretty, but it probably is fairly realistic in terms of how things worked. The book that hung *me* up was Black Sawn... S P O I L E R ..."Oh by the way, our Hero is a rapist. I believe she said that Di is dead. LOL, of course I didn't sit down and have a heart to heart with her about this so there is always the margin for error, but I think this was from a convention she attended and they did an interview with her. On another note, I am just rereading Arrow's Flight and was thinking what a great story Alberich's story would make. I wonder if she ever is going to write about him? I've enjoyed reading about Herald's like Lavan Firestorm (sad, sad) and Vanyel, but would LOVE to read more of the individual great Heralds stories. Anyone know if there are any in the making? Also something I caught for the first time, Herald Kris' Companion is Tantris! The same Tantris as in Vanyels time. If I remember correctly he was a mind healer like Talia is, so when Kris asked him what to do, I'm wondering why he couldn't at least provide a basic for what they needed to teach Talia? And it was neat discovering an old friend. Someone was talking about Jays the other day, who did he end up with? Savil ended up with Kerowyn...perfect choice. LOL, just a personal side note that no one may be interested in but I'm 6 months pregnant and when we picked names, I have liked the name Kethry so much that we decided that we would name the baby Kethry Lynn if she was a girl. Then at 20 weeks we found out that it's twin girls!! Well we wracked our brains and could not come up with a name that fit with Kethry and sounded right. Then my husband tentatively suggested Tarma and we both knew no other name could fit with Kethry. So the girls when they get here will be Tarma Roxanne for the firstborn and Kethry Lynn for the second. LOL, I'd like to send Ms. Lackey a birth announcement and a thankyou for the use of the wonderful names Anyway, now that I volunteered more info than you probably wanted, I'll sign off *S* Roxanne ----- Original Message ----- > This makes me think about the di tregard (sp?) books. The one that was about a little girl that was being molested by her father. I had lived a childhood much like that one and when I found that book it was while I was in therapy and that book was just perfect. It was a dark subject, but I really felt like it was handled well. It is in Arrow's Flight! I know because I am just reading that one! It is where Talia is reassuring Elspeth that her Companion probably has not matured yet. It's in Chapter one "Look, its probably only that your Companion just hasn't been old enough, and you know very well they don't Choose until they are ten or better." If you have the Daw edition with Talia in whites and Rolan looking like he is starting to leap it is on pg 23. I don't think they said how old Yfandes was, just said that she was the oldest Companion that had never Chosen until Vanyel, but could be wrong about that. I'll reread those next so am not up to date on my facts. *S* Roxanne ----- Original Message ----- > Firstly, I don't recall it being said in the books that Companions have to > be ten years old before they Choose. I've been thinking that if I have a daughter, I'd really like to mane her Elspeth. I love that name. About the Di Tregard thing, yeah, there were some people who thought it was too dark, and that Misty was consorting with the devil and such, and they sent her death threats, so she decided not to write any more in that series. Keisha is about to be Chosen, and holds out by pure strength of will, telling him she is needed where she is. He goes on to Choose Shandi, Keisha's sister. Interesting passage.
