First off reading that "Keisha Alder could very easily have been chosen" statement doesn't imply to me that she was going to be chosen and said no... only that she could have been chosen and wasn't. Slight difference. And in Owlsight I got the feeling that the reason the Companion was amused by Keisha's reluctance was that he wasn't there for her at all... Reinforcing this is the bit later when the Companion winks at her while she's thinking that you get chosen for being the right person and that she wasn't the right person to be chosen.
