You know - thats a great question. I just thought it was a plot device to
heighten the whole "Vanyel and his lost lifebond" issues, but I wonder if
Misty had a background explanation.

I can't claim ownership of that statement (I don't think!) but I do have to
say that it seems to follow the "Lucas theory of trilogies." - you know,
Book 1, introduce the players and wrap it up with an ending that's happy but
definitely NOT the end of the story.. Book 2 is ok, but more plot
development with an ending that leaves you a bit hanging, and Book 3 wraps
it all together in a dramatic climax that wouldn't have been so with out
books 1 and 2. (Think Star wars, Empire, and Jedi break down.)

Maybe its part of the "idea of the month" club that the writers all
subscribe to. <grin>
