From the first 9/10ths of each book, I expected SO MUCH more! > >At least it's not just me... > >Dev Admittedly, I've only read "Serpent's Shadow," but I would heartily agree that I loved the first 9/10ths -- found them elegant and complex, great characterization, wonderful descriptions -- and then thought the whole thing came to a rather abrupt end. That's why there was a while I was absolutely positive there was going to be a sequel -- I couldn't imagine that that was really the end, and that the whole world would just be wrapped up like that. Heck, there were characters like the second Peter, or the Irish doctor, or Peter's grandmother that were only just getting interesting, and I could have sworn she was building up to doing more with them. I also found it interesting that the conclusion is part that's the most blatant retelling of the fairy tale. I actually didn't see the connection until that last 1/10. Didn't really knock me out of the book, but I rather felt she'd been doing well enough without the tie-in before. And I dearly love retellings of fairy tales!
