I mean, I don't hate the individual people, of course; I don't know them. But I hate tourists in general. I work in the little grocery store in my little town, and I have to deal with SO many of them. I had some really exceptionally stupid ones today, who really got on my nerves. One lady said that she was impressed with how well I spoke, since I came from such a small town. Did she expect me to be illiterate, or something?!? *Starshadow thrown some patience sheep at her* Lightsong! Calm down! We all have to deal with the tourists, all the time. *Lightsong glares at her, and then calms down* I guess you're right...but they're still stupid!! Since I actually went back and just re-read the end of Arrow's Fall, I thought I'd share.... Okay, enough fluff!! Layla said: On the other hand, immediately after that exchange, Dirk says how much he misses Kris, and Talia says that she does, too. Her exact words are "I think we lost more than a friend -- we lost a part of ourselves." Which would seem to indicate that, if Talia is right, there might in fact have been a three way bond there. It just probably would have taken a while to develop. The more I picture it, the more I see Kris as Sherrill, standing on the outside wistfully looking in but terrified to disturb anything No, I definitely don't agree with that. Kris was worried about interfering with Dirk and Talia's lifebond...he had no real attraction to Talia other than a strong friendship, which he says many times in AFlight. He says over and over that he hopes Talia isn't too attached to him, becuase he really has no romantic feelings for her, and he knows that she and Dirk are lifebonded. Talia too, says that she doens't want Kris to be too attracted to her, becuase she isn't interested in anything serious. This doens't look like a three way bond to me, at all. Talia and Kris got together because they were trapped together for months and months, no other reason. They were very close friends, but that was it. Saying that she and Dirk lost part of themselves when he died just meant that they were so close it felt like losing a part of themselves. I know that's how I'd feel if I lost any of my best friends, but I certainly have no romantic interst in any of them. *grins guiltily and steps off the soap box she didn't realize she was standing on* Sorry bout the lecture! Didn't plan on rambling on that much! We are not all self-centered bigots with only two active brain cells. BTW my dogs love all the sheep that get lobbed around here. They have them neatly herded up in a corner where they (the sheep) baa quietly all night. Restful actually. FLUFF OVER Which kind of leads me to a question that has been bothering me for years......WHY do all sci-fi/fantasy authors seem to be cat people? I mean really. Not just Misty-Anne McCaffrey, Tanya Huff, heck even David Weber is a cat person. Dogs are so much more cuddly and protective too. And loyal. Or am I just too sensitive? The ONLY dogs I can remember reading about in a fantasy novel are the ones Kerowyn uses for relaying messages. As near as I can tell those are whippets or Italian Greyhounds (Misty???) and rather goofy. Yeah a dog will do lots of things for food. Okay anything anytime if the bait is right. But they do things for love too. Cats don't. As far as cats are concerned people are just there to open the cat food and change the litter box. If they had thumbs they wouldn't need us at all. "Gently baaing lullaby sheep to all" efficiently herded by my shelties. Who very much love food. :) > [Original Message] > From: Charlotte DiStefano > To: > Date: 7/7/01 9:07:23 PM > Subject: Re: More about Kris > > Heyla all, > > *fluff warning* > > I HATE tourists. If they had thumbs they wouldn't need us at all. Someone's been reading Tanya Huff's Keeper books.. ^_^ I think most people perfer to write about cats because they have persieved personalities as selfish bastards who will help people when convienent rather than the dog persieved personality of it'll let you kick it as much as you like as long as you scratch it behind the ears. Cats have mystery. Dogs have blind loyalty. Cats have attitude. Dogs will do anything you ask of them. Cats have a look to them that says "I know something you don't and I'm not telling" Dogs have the look of "I know nothing but if you tell me I'll listen." Having been attacked by dogs for walking down the street from the bus stop 5 times now (different dogs each time) I've started getting a severe dislike for dogs.. so I'm rather biased on the entire matter. I know it isn't fair to the dogs, it's *bad owners* that make bad dogs.. but I can't help it sometimes. There's a couple of good dog stories in the Chicks in Chainmail series.. -Lorna (Please pardon the bad spelling, a sheep seems to have eaten my dictionary..) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2001 21:30:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Peter Allen To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Totally off topic Message-ID: <20010708043037.25481.qmail-+AT+-web9102.mail.yahoo.com> ObMisty: Wharrl was a large wolf-ish being (for the current cat/dog conversation). The Geocities address is down because the *ahem* lovely comapny won't allow me to prove to them that it actually is my mailbox. As such, I haven't been able to check it for almost three years now (Which would make you wonder why they still have it in existence, eh?). As for the birthday list, I haven't had thought to reincarnate it into any useable version since the last time that it existed. If there is enough interest in the matter, I am sure that either myself or some other list member might be gald to look into the possibilities *searches the crowd's eyes smiling*. If anyone should need me, I'll be in this pile of dust and debris called packaging material. Should that not suffice, a private e-mail would probably do wonderfully.
