Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it - if not I'll email Firebirds Arts and see what they can tell me! Also, query regarding Companions Choosing - the King/Queen always has to be a Herald, therefore, someone of Royal Blood has to be Chosen. What I am trying to get at is, what happens if there is no direct Heir. I mean, what about Elspeth's brother and sister - Kris and ? (Lyssa?). I am sure it said someone in the Winds series that the Companions were sure they would be chosen. Why would they be Chosen though? Sorry if I lost everyone - I feel like I am grasping at straws to explain what I am thinking :) Wind to thy Wings, tamlin _____________________________________________________________________________ http://messenger.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! That's what happened in Magic's Price (2nd book, if I mixed up the title) and that they were discussing in the Arrows Trilogy. Jeri was Heir Presumptive because she was chosen and of royal blood, of an alternate lineage until Elspeth was Chosen. What I am >trying to get at is, what happens if there is no >direct Heir. That was the big issue at the beginning of Arrows Flight -- Elspeth hadn't been Chosen yet, so she couldn't be the real Heir. It sounded as if the Council (or probably the Queen Queen's Own) wait until it's obvious that the Heir Presumptive (ie, the person we assume is going to become Heir once he/she is Chosen) isn't going to be Chosen, and then they pick someone who *has* been Chosen and who is also of royal/noble blood. If I recall correctly, Jeri was one candidate, and I forget who the other one was. But as Elspeth was nearing 13 or 14 and still un-Chosen, Seleney was under some pressure to name someone other than Elspeth as the Heir. >I mean, what about Elspeth's brother and >sister - Kris and ? (Lyssa?). Lyta >I am sure it said >someone in the Winds series that the Companions were >sure they would be chosen. Why would they be Chosen >though? For one thing, Elspeth says in one of the Winds books that she's pretty sure she's not destined to be Queen: she'll be the first Herald-Mage, and then one of the twins will be Monarch and the other Monarch's Own (after Talia). For that to happen, both of them would have to be Chosen. For another, there's no reason why they shouldn't be Heralds -- it's probably pretty useful to have the Monarch's family be Heralds. Finally, I think the Companions are already pretty sure that the twins are Herald material the same way the Companions were sure that Jisa in the Last Herald Mage series was future Herald material: they seem to be good kids, and they're being raised in a tradition of service by people who themselves have been Chosen. Besides, the Companions are supposed to be able to see what kind of person you are, and I'm sure they were all checking out the twins pretty carefully, to prevent Evil Thanel Genes from popping up again. It was said in Winds somewhere, (I am not sure where) That the twins were so sweet and great herald material that the companions were already fighting over them, thus there was no question that one of them would be chosen. Also Someone said(Bad delete button, BAD!) That Jeri was Heir Presumptive before Elspeth was chosen, This is not true. There was no heir presumptive before Elspeth was chosen. There Just a few people who were possible heirs if it became obvious that Elspeth WOULDN'T be chosen. Jeri was a possiblitiy, and so was some guy named Kemoc, and I THINK that Kris was a possibility too, I am not sure about that though. Message-ID: <20010731170437.62632.qmail-+AT+-web13304.mail.yahoo.com> Speaking of the twins, i found the situation during the winds trilogy, where the gryphlets(sp?) and the kids were all using the salle(sp?) as a playroom...just thought that was a really cool picture, and it made me wonder if in White Gryphon the younglings of all the various races there are commonly raised together in a similar manner...wouldn't mind seeing more of the twins and the gryphlets being raised there in Haven... another thing...I may be wrong, but for some reason i keep gettign this idea that the number of gryphlets changed from two to three for the scene where need and the gryphlets were being used as bait in a trap for falconsbane...haven't read the book in awhile so not sure if my mind's playing tricks (happens quite often :P ) And one last comment/question: did Treyvan and Hydona actually conceive more gryphlets? or was it interrupted when falconsbane knocked them from the air...If there are more gryphlets on the way, then the twins (both human and gryphlets) might find themselves helping quite a bit. Prehaps a daycare for humans and gryphlets (and mabey kyree and others?) will be started up in Haven? Seems the Blues, as well as the other colleges, could learn a lot with such a setup.... Anyway, sorry for the ramble, GryphRaptor PS: sorry for any misspellings...don't have the books to double check exact names and such.... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? They're in contact with Misty. 2. http://firebirdarts.com/ This is Firebird, they sell all her stuff, and post important notices concerning her. You can preorder books here, too. My own website is http://www.geocities.com/temarrea/goldengrove.htm I run the CA chapter of Queen's Own, but I'm still adding stuff to my page, so it's a bit of a mess at the moment, but I do have a complete (as far as I know, but doesn't include any books not yet out) list of her books. wttw, Aurora PS On a side note: would anyone happen to know the whereabouts of someone named Dominic Bridwell? Thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. ===== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Scary!" -Vash, Trigun ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It's all true though, Misty and Larry have been putting in some hours on getting this right; such that there's a reference to the whole valdemar series. (I can just hear all the nitpickers giggling with glee :-). The real thing to watch out for is the Map that Larry painstakingly produced. I've seen the original, and it's awesome. I kept telling him he should draw it to scale, but he wanted the detail. Okay, it's not really 1:1, but it's awfully big. I'm quite certain that reduced to book page size it will not be done justice. We have plans afoot to make posters - so here's a question.. would you guys be interested? If there aren't enough takers, it won't happen see, and now I've got your attention....
