Also, what a bummer it would be to both be reincarnated as Companions and never see each other except for very special occasions. E.G. If Kalira and Lan are "lifebonded" souls - And if Gala is Kalira, then where was Lan's alter ego during the time she was Gala??? I guess that could be an argument that Gala isn't Kalira. But I think its pretty sticky to assume that Heralds like Mardic and Donni were stuck together for eternity, no matter what their incarnation.... I mean the companions seem to retain some semblance of memory of their former lives (take Sayvil for instance) - wouldn't it bum you out to be a Companion and remember the lifebond, but your other half is 30 years behind in the reincarnation queue? I guess it comes down to the more philosophical discussion of "are life bonds actually soul bonds" meaning they last past death. And companions seems to have some control over bonding (though the "false alarms" mentioned in BB leads me to believe they aren't as powerful as previously thought) as well, so its all a very interesting discussion.... The books provide a satisfactory conclusion to a lot of the stuff that went on in the 'Winds' series and they are, as usual, excellently written. Based on my personal preferences, though, I'd recommend you read the 'Arrows' trilogy as soon as you can; also the Mage Wars 'Gryphon' books. I'm slightly jealous - you have all these wonderful books still to discover . Enjoy yourself. Cheers, Becky Green. .. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2001 22:48:39 From: "Rebecca McAllister" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Newbie Message-ID: Nataku Wrote > >Hello >im new on this list (duh) >ive read mage winds, last-herald mage, oathblood, brightly burning, and >bedlam's bard (not valdemar, but still). i wanted to know if the storm >something or other trilogy was worth buying. i saw it in a barnes and noble >the other day. i probably would have gotten it too, but i only had 14 >dollars and fortress of owls looked so tempting . .. First Things First, WELCOME TO THE LIST!!!!. Okay now that that's over with(grin)... Yes I think that Storms is defenatly worth buying, or at least getting at the library. It is one of my favorite trilogies. I noticed that in your list, you didn't mention the Arrows of the Queen trilogy. I HIGHLY recommend that you get this one. A lot of the stories will make a little more sense after reading this one. It is also my personal favorite also and would recommend it anyways. Anywho, welcome to the list and you should make you way to the newbiefest and read up on our list dos and don'ts. I don't have the address myself, but I am sure that some kind soul will post the addy for you real soon.(grins again) Becca _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2001 19:35:19 EDT From: TurtleLover212-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Newbie Message-ID: <117.39532f4.28b59bb7-+AT+-aol.com> Thanks for the help! i didn't expect people to reply so fast. anyway, i'll try the storm series so as possible and then the arrows one. i probably should have read that one before mage winds, ne? o well. i'm known for reading the last book in a series first. thanks again!!!! I have read everything on Valdemar, I think all of her elves stuff, the Bardic Choices/voices and Diana Tregarde-also Sacred Ground/fire rose/serpents shadow/etc. Has anyone heard if she is going to come out with anymore Valdemar books? I would think there are still many, many stories to be told-I would love to hear more about Talia becoming a Sun Priest and more about the other children of Kethry and Jadrek-the ones who went Clan or Mage. Also about the founding of Valdemar and more, more, more! I LOVE these books!
