My favorite Free Bards book was actually Four & Twenty Blackbirds, because it didn't focus so very much on music, which I don't know diddly about. I do like a good mystery and the one in that book was a doozy! > I'm just re-reading it now, and I'm discovering things I'd forgot > about. . .Anyway, I think Rune is one of my fav NON-Valdemar > characters, she's very independant and self-reliant. . .Sorry so > short, but what does everyone think of The Bardic Voices Series? My favorite non-Valdemar character is Diana, or more accurately Andre. No matter how jaded I feel, I always cry at tragic parts. but I love the characters are the ones that strike a chord, and act as I might/would/could/should. I adored their strength of character, their stubborness, their refusal to be stuck in roles, etc etc etc. by the by, (since we're supposed to braid, right?) I was at the firebird website, and it advertised a book I've never heard of: Phoenix in the Ashes. does anyone know what this is, is it out, what's it about? ~~cheers, Kat/Perchta~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2001 06:31:21 -0400 From: Michael C McNeill To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: New Subjects :-) Message-ID: <20010825.063907.-383671.1.firewing-+AT+-juno.com> > First of all I'd like to welcome all the Newbies. One of my favorite series - the other being the Urban Fantasy series. Ok, truth be told, I've not yet gotten around to reading any of the Valdemar books, altho my wife and daughter love them. I don;t know diddly about music either (well, ok, I played sax in jr-high, but that was *AGES* ago, and I *can* play the recorder if I have sheet music and have heard the song before) but I love bards. I only just discovered "Four-and-Twenty" even exists, so I've a new quest ahead of me. ;-) I'd say the Free Bards setting would make an excellent setting for an RPG... --Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2001 23:01:37 +0800 From: "Runewind" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: New Subjects :-) Message-ID: <3B882E51.10180.CC29E0-+AT+-localhost> On 25 Aug 2001, at 1:21, C. I really enjoyed them, and they made me want to see more of the bards in Valdemar. My favorite was "Four and Twenty Blackbirds". I liked "The Lark and the Wren" a lot, but I found the last fourth of the book to be a bit tedious. I am still trying to figure out why. There also seems to be gaps in the series, primarily between "The Robin and the Kestral" and "The Eagle and the Nightengales". Is this part of the story written up in another series? I really would like to read about the fire in Kingsford. I'm sure someone else with a better memory will post! Okay, I went and found the book. It's Raven. The book is "A Cast of Corbies", written by Mercedes Lackey and Josepha Sherman. ~*~cheers, Kat/Perchta~~ ~*~ momma to Rebecca, born July/00 ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2678 **********************************
