As far as I know, it's not out yet, but is supposed to be part of the Retold Fairy Tales series. The latest one ("Serpent's Shadow") was set in sort of the same magic-using Victorian world that "Fire Rose" was. So Phoenix in the Ashes may be similar. I can't think of a fairy tale that fits that title, though. Maybe Sleeping Beauty, Beauty being someone who sort of comes back to life. Also braiding: thanks so much to everyone for the comments on Marion Zimmer Bradley! I am indeed going to enjoy reading the Darkover novels. Someone commented that they had tried to read Mercedes Lackey starting chronologically within the books with the Gryphon books, and wished they started with Arrows and some of the later books written earlier. I started with Arrows and Oaths and am very glad (and give people the Arrows series first if I'm giving them anything), so I think I'll try to read them in the order MZB wrote them. My original question was prompted by the fact that I read "Darkover Landfall," the very first one within the story (the crash landing of the original settlers), and realized that it might mean a lot more if I knew more about the people who these people's descendants were going to be.
