The list of Heralds and Companions reminded me of a question:

Taver is the name of the Monarch's Own Companion in the time of the Last 
Herald Mage (from Lancir to Shavri to Jisa): I also understand that the four 
Grove-Born Monarch's Own Companions are reincarnated periodically, so Taver 
would also have been MOC for later MOs.

In the short story "Stolen Silver," two Heralds and their Companions meet 
Alberich as he flees over the border from Karse: there's a woman, who says 
"Aren's brought the Healer", and a second, ungendered voice which says 
"Taver says his name is Alberich."

Does that mean that Alberich was met at the border by the Monarch's Own?  
And would Aren be the MO before Talamir, or is the woman talking about her 
own Companion, Aren, bringing the Healer?

Well, from reading Take a Thief, Aren may not be the MO, because Talamir & 
Taver are in TAT.  Granted, it doesn't say how long Talamir's been around, 
but I got the impression (from TAT and the Talia books) that Talamir had 
been around since Selenay was the heir.  I believe Selenay told Talia at 
one point that she didn't feel she could talk to Talamir that easily, which 
led to the problems with her first marriage.

So I would say that Aren is some other Herald, and that Taver had been 
talking briefly with Kantor/"Silver" about Alberich and passing the info on 
to Talamir and/or the other Companions.  Talamir may be the "second, 
ungendered voice" in the short story.

I know this is a change of subject but I wanted to share.  My friend, Laura 
Cameron was visiting and was kind enough to paint my closet doors.  She 
painted a large castle on the water with a herald sitting on the bank.  I 
thought you guys may be interested.  The castle is based on a well 
photographed castle in England.  I am sorry I don't know which one.  I am

LOL, Angela you are naming your puppy after a Misty character but I named my
*kids* after some. I had twin girls in August and named them Tarma and
Kethry. I get all kinds of comments on how unusual and pretty the names are.
So far though, only two people have actually recognized where the names came
from.

Horse Fantastic is the book...  Edited by Martin H Greenberg and Rosalind
M Greenberg.  Not a bad book on the whole, although I originally bought it
only for Stolen Silver.

Continuing my rereading...  I found no discrepancies in the Arrows books,
and not too many mentions of his history either.  I don't have those with
me.  However, in Winds of Fate it implies that his mother was a thief as
well, and she was killed by a rival at which point he was taken in by his
uncle, also a thief, who taught him and ended up hanged.  Still reading...

It is definitely in Werehunter, which is also online at the very cool online 
Baen Free Library:

Read the explanation of what the library is, then look under "The Books" and 
then under "Werehunter," and the story (in the table of contents) is "Stolen 
Silver."

I mean, you can also go directly to the story, but I think the online 
library is a wonderful thing for Baen Books to be doing, so it's also worth 
reading Eric Flint's introduction to it.

  I was having the same problem four years ago...  Now I've got a 117 pound 
Golden Retriever named Amberdrake...  

  All my Misty loving friends thought the name was cute...  I think my

So it's unlikely (although possible) that Alberich would span four MOs: if 
Aren was MO, he'd have to have been MO even before Keighven, and you get the 
sense from AotQ that Talamir had been MO for a while.

And Aren would then be yet a third Herald, probably already sent off to get 
the Healer before Alberich arrives at the border and is met by Talamir and 
the unnamed woman.

Part of me was just surprised that the Monarch's Own would be doing border 
patrol duty, especially on the relatively dangerous Karse/Valdemar border.  
However, I also suppose that meeting a half-dead, newly-Chosen Herald coming 
over the border from Karse might be important enough for the MO to hike all 
the way out to the border, and it seems as if Kantor had plenty of time to 
alert at least some of the other Companions to what he was doing.  Alberich 
does seem to have been met by quite a welcoming party -- three Heralds, 
including the MO.  But, hey, I like Alberich.  He deserves it.
