I don't know if this has ever been done before, and/or failed/succeeded in the past, but I would love to be able to puchase a wall calendar featuring jody lee's artwork from Velgarth (and maybe short quotes over the bottom of the images from the book they came from?). If they were available, I know I'd buy one every year; I love the artwork on the cover of the books, and love the books, and would love to buy prints some day if I can afford to (if they're still available). As far as I know, getting calendars made is fairly inexpensive (copyrights and things like that aside). I used to work for a doctor who would get calendars made with his black and white photographs and sell them to patients. Just an idea of something I wish could happen, but may never be possible (I won't hold my breath). :) -Tara. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 20:07:42 -0800 From: Daystar To: "'mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk'" Subject: RE: Something I would like to see Message-ID: <01C16C7E.DCB65320.Daystar-+AT+-Texas.net> Greetings all, I have enjoyed this list immensely. Delurking here for the first time because I like the idea of a Jody Lee calendar. I would enthusiastically be the first in line, here in Plano, to buy one. Ordering from Firebird Arts would be even better. I have numerous quotes from the Velgarth books in my journals but I don't open my journals very often. It would be fun to see quotes from the books along with the cover art! Thanks for sharing that idea. At least I can fantasize. Diana Not that I ever fully understood this but, where have all the sheep gone lately? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 20:59:36 -0600 From: "Heather B. Arnold" To: Subject: Delurking Message-ID: <001801c16cb8$7a8e1a40$3059560c-+AT+-oemcomputer> Hello all. Just wanted to give a quick wave and offer some toasty... er... tasty sheep to everyone still attached to the mistylist. I was checking out Amazon the other day, and was thrilled to see the cover for _The Valdemar Companion_. What gorgeous cover art! I'm also with the calendar people. That would be fun. :) Well, I'm only halfway through _Take a Thief_, but I've found it a light and fairly fun read so far. Without offering any spoilers, I just wanted to say that I like her work *so* much better when she concentrates on the personal dramas of the characters and doesn't rely on world-changing events to drive the plot. World-changing events are cool, but IMHO, the seams start to show in Velgarth when they're not spackled with distracting sympathetic (if somewhat angsty) characters. Misty's very good at character development, and I feel that her best writing to date has focused on the plots that develop from characters, rather than the other way 'round. To that effect, I loved the Arrows and Magic series and _The Black Gryphon_, disliked Winds and Storms . Have a love-hate relationship with the other Gryphon books. Haven't read Owls yet. Maybe with _Brightly Burning_ and _Take a Thief_, she's slowly returning to her old ways? I hope. Anyhoo, just my $.02... Probably a done-to-death topic, but. I'm still a sucker for an appealing central character. Tannim and Skandranon rule! There is so much drama in those series... or is it melodrama? Don't get me wrong, Misty is my favorite author, but those ON AND ON dramas are kind of hard to take sometimes. Have not read her newest, but Owl series is really good. If you haven't bought it yet, it's worth the purchase. :) --Book __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Message-ID: <003701c16d0e$4b71bf40$7360fa18-+AT+-athen1.ga.home.com> I pre-ordered this from Amazon, thinking that I would wind up canceling the order anyway, and going to the bookstore and getting it because they typically get it first. Well, it had a release date (according to Amazon) of Dec 1st. This morning, I get an email saying that my order had shipped. Yay! But wait - it says that they charged me $24 plus shipping.. And that doesn't make sense. So I went and looked - they say the list price is $24, and that their price is $16.80. So I sent them an email.. Just wanted to warn everyone else about that.
