Do you guys really really want this like I really really want this? :) If no one has a better idea, then is anyone willing to put together a petition page for this? I don't know much about cgi/php/perl to do something like that, but perhaps one of our listsibs does? Or maybe one of the Queens' Own? I wonder how many signatures and committments we'd need to actually make this a real possibility? Has anyone ever done anything like this before? If we get a decent number of signatures, then we can forward the link to several publishers and see if any takes the bait? I dunno, can anyone thing of a better way to do this? My concerns: I would want this calendar to get published of its own merit and fanbase, I'd rather not have people grabbing their friends and saying "sign this petition, it's for a good cause, REALLY!!" and having someone who doesn't know anything about misty and her books just sign the petition as if they really cared about the calendar....It will be hard to keep that from happening with an online petition. Tentative sheep to all. :o -Tara ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 12:35:36 -0700 From: "Healer-Adept Moonstar" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Petition (was: Re: Something I would like to see) Message-ID: Most online petitions are ignored. I think the better way to go would be to get a list of Calender publishers on the web and start flooding them with email. That way they know we are serious with our wish. I will mention it in the December Queen's Own newsletter which I will be writing and putting together in the next few days. I think one thing we could do is if everyone looked for calender publishers and posted them here. Then perhaps we could come up with a standardized email request for a Jody Lee calender for her art based on the Mercedes Lackey Velgarth novels. When we send email to the Calender companies I would include a snail mail address you wouldn't mind recieving their junk mail too, as they will likely want to put you on their mailing list to try to entice you to buy one of their other calenders. However having a snail mail address makes you more of a customer than if you were just to send them an email. Those are my thoughts anyway. I do wonder, though, if there are enough of Misty's fans on this list (or even in Queen's Own), to make a dent; a lot of the fans I know don't seem to be aware of these forums. > I think one thing we could do is if everyone > looked for calender publishers and posted them here. I think that could become a mail volume problem very quickly, especially if several different people post the same addresses (I know that I've observed a several hour lag between when I send e-mail, and when it hits the list; people could easily duplicate in complete innocence). For myself, although I adore Jody Lee's artwork, I'd be equally thrilled with a calendar of Larry's work; of course, I've been known to have a calendar up in every room of my house; I'm terrible about keeping track of the date, my eyes are bad, and I'm lazy, so I like to make sure I can see a calendar from just about anywhere I may be working. :) Wind to Thy Wings, Dev editor, Companions' Grove http://www.greendragonpress.net/misty.htm ***** Do I control the magic, or does the magic control me? ------------------------------ Date: 16 Nov 2001 22:04:32 -0000 From: "C. So far Take a Theif is really good ( I just got it) My only beef with her newest works is that she seems to be getting a little careless with facts such as the Roaln thing, I think people are still debating about how many Rolan' there were.. . .but then again being an author of so many books it'd be hard to keep track, someone needs to make her a list of character she's used and in what books, then she wouldn't be confused :) ________________________________________________________________ Get Free Anime Email, News, Links, Forums and Shopping at http://www.AnimeNation.com ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2733 **********************************
